Rooted Cuts in less than 2 weeks?

Olathe, KS(Zone 6a)

Heya Friends.
Brugie and all. Is it rare to get a brug to root this good in 13 days? These 2 pictures below were started on the same day. 1 cut was rooted using "rootech cloning gel" then placed into foam cubes called "Oasis cubes" then put into a tray covered by a humidity dome.
The 2nd picture is a cut from the same branch on the same day. I placed this cut in my aquarium filter box were it's submerged in water to the root line. I think the very MILD nutrient and the high amount of saturated O2 in the water made all the difference between this and a cup of water method.
This is my 1st Brugmansia ever and I'm now hooked w/o even seeing 1 flower in my yard;) LOL

Here is the 1 that I stuck in the filter box full of water.
Please let me know if this is a fast method of rooting cuts. Both cuts are Brugmansia Suaveolens White from Clare btw.

Thank You Dear for introducing me into all these different plants and taking the time to send them to me;).

Well you either have a "real" green thumb, or her cuttings were in excellent condition. Nice going!

They sure did well Jeff. Glad to see you have such good luck with your first cuttings. Now....let's see you get them to bloom. LOL!! Just kidding...brugs bloom pretty easily. I'm glad you like the challenge of rooting. It is stressful to me.

Thanks friends.
Brugie, tell me it's not that hard to get Brugs to flower please.LOL We were incredibly lucky w/ our Datura's(we called them "Moon Flower bushes") last year, I started them from a seed pod I "collected" from a nieghbor. I plan on doing a lot of cross pollenating w/ those this year if I get enough varieties going. Same w/ Passiflora's and Brug's I hope. My 1st Passiflora had to be hand pollenated to get fruit for the 1st year or so. Then suddenly these funky looking bumble bee's w/ no fuzz on them showed up and took over the pollenating. That's another question I never had answered. Do you think that P. Incarnata(although mine does live through our winters) needed and attracked this special bumble bee for pollenation? I've seen a couple maps showing P. Incarnata is or was native to this region although I've never seen 1 North of Oklahoma nor has anyone else I've talked to. I would of seen them if they were here from our mushroom hunting, hiking etc. I used to do a lot of. I've never seen these funky bumble bees collecting pollen from any of our other flowers. I know this happens in more remote places like Hawii were the natural insects that pollenated certain species of plants no longer exist. WOW! This is getting DEEP! LOL Am I wasting grey matter or what?

Since I know nothing about pollinating passiflora or the bees that frequent them...you are going to get no answers from me. LOL!! The brugs...yes, I can answer some questions about them. You will have blooms, expecially if you feed them often. I feed mine twice a week until it gets so hot I can't stand to anything more than hit them with the hose.

I am sure you will have lots of flowers Jeff! I have heard oasis cubes are good for germinating seeds also.

Right now in spring, I find brugs root in just water in about a week or so. A real test would be a hard to root brug! I should try it on my RK! Though I get them to root, I seem to kill them after that!

Hi Brugie,
I guess that I am a little leery of even entering into this conversation. This is my very first experience with "brugs".

My first question, (before I forget) is that you say that you fertilize your brugs twice a week. Fertilize with what. (Pls. be kind. Be sure to say a fertilizer that is readily available.)

I grow and propogate my plants aquaponically. I have a 2,000 gal fish system. ( I grow Koi.) If I may say so, Holy S..., the brugs love this system. I place them in the rocks with the fish effluent and they grow like crazy. Now keep in mind that I live in Wisconsin, grow plants w/o any natural light (I use a 1,500 watt HPS growlight.)

My only question about fertilizatiion is because I have them out of their growbeds now and in pots. I still water them with fish effluent water, but what, if any, additional fertilizer should I use with them? They already have huge pods on them.

I love these guys because I have babied them all winter and they are "hugely" leafed.

Welcome to the brug forum Careplus! You are the second person to tell us how good fish doo does. Kristi, a regular member here, also used her fish water and got great results. I also hear they love rabbit and horse doo. I only have used cow and chicken doo myself. I think brugs are a doo loving plant!

What crosses are your pods? We just love pods here! LOL

Careplus, I have used just about every fertilizer there is out there. Right now I'm using Excel by Scotts, but it is a little hard to find. Peters is good and many people use Miracle Grow. That is what I started with. I think it is all a matter of choice and $$. One year I tossed in a bunch of Osmocote timed released fertilizer. I don't know if it helped, but it didn't hurt. I've used 20-20-20 and 15-5-15 but I don't use Bloom boosters more than once or twice a season. Hope this helps and I'm sure glad to meet you and hope you will be back often.

This is great. Now I have more aquaponic growers to play with. Steve is on a much bigger scale than me.
Steve I have a write up somewhere about how to suppliment you fish water for flowering plants where your mainly feeding for vegatative growth right now. They have changed or amended food to change the fert. values and added different species of fish that produce a more potent "poo" for flowering plants. I'll find my notes on that too asap.

The pictures I posted below were at 2 weeks, I had small roots at 7-10 days on most of the plants. I think I could of done much better if my cuts weren't in the mail for 3-4 days before I got to them. I'll take more cuts and repeat.

Steve I did the same thing your doing except on a smaller scale. I used a 100gallon tank full of feeder goldfish(since my other fish eat them and they were cheap to play with) and the water trickled through 2 towers of plants growing in Growrock medium. These were just house plants and 2 tropical hibiscus. I had them under a 430 HPS rather than my 1K, I had the system in the middle of the living room so it had to be somewhat pretty too(so my wife would allow it in there). We had flowers all winter long w/o any ferts and the 430 light sure kept the room bright and warm!LOL When you drove down the street and saw our house from a block away, it looked like our window was a landing strip. The biggest aquaponic farm I saw was in the Ozarks(Branson Mo.) and they grew specialty greens for the resturaunts there and they also farmed fish that they sold there too for food. This species of fish are "Tilapia", a african cichlid that grow fast and can handle most any water. They sell Tilapia everywherenow as a nice white fish.
I can't for the life of me remeber what this guy amended his water with that didn't effect the fish, it was a powder like bone meal or the like. He also flipped the light from 18 on 6 off to 12/12. With the additive and light change, tomato's and peppers grew like mad and also were very tastey. I look forward to learning from you more. I have family up by you, do you know where "Richmond Center" is? My family used to run a huge dairy farm there.

Brugie I'm adding theH202 write up to the forum you mentioned under brugs;). Wait till I rewrite my notes on the KREB cycle. It's so scientific sounding as is, it needs laymen's translation.
Thanks for the greta info guys!
Jeff
