Moving Em Out!!!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Today I turned the gas off to the heater and started pulling things out of the greenhouse. I even planted some brugs outside in the gorund as well as some in pots.

I may be jumping the gun but i'm past the point of being ready to get stuff out of the gh and into the yard.

The past 2 light frosts we had didn't damage anything and our temps are supposed to be nice for the next few weeks.

Rothkirch is one of the plants I moved out. It is just taking up too much room in th gh because it's about 5ft tall now.

A 5ft tall Rothkirch? You lucky duck you!!

Yeah Liz and it's a NH original!! I'm surprised it hasn't Y'd yet. It apparertnly is wood taken from below the flowering region. I found last year that all of my cuttings that came from the flowering area all Y'd before they reached a height of 2 ft.
This plant has HUGE!!! leaves,is deep dark green and the trunk is about 3-4 inches round.

Sounds great David. I'm getting anxious to get things out of the greenhouse too, but still have over a month to go.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Lucky you David. My RK is very wide. Definitely from the top growth. I cut off an entire limb and cut them up. They rooted fine last October and put out new leaves over winter. This last week they just got up and died. I am sick over it. I told them spring was here and time to enjoy life, but no, they just had to be difficult!

I'm having some trouble with my Arborea right now. I know she needs to be outside. Can anyone tell me how cold she can take it?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Colder than the other brugs Shirley. At least in my yard. It got the least frost bite of all. Though it is under a huge apricot tree.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

My RK fared pretty good in the move south, but isn't nearly as big as yours David! Wow, you've got a monster plant!
Brugie, The arborea didn't mind a light frost, but it sure hated freezing when it got cold on us when we were moving. Mine has started growing again, but lost a lot of top growth at 26*F(not TX weather, this was in TN)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I might put mine out in the garage to get it used to cooler weather and gradually introduce it to outside. If it is going to get really cold, I could pull it back into the garage. It just needs light very badly. Thanks Susie.

Sounds great, David....
pssst can you share your secret recipe for RK??? lol

You have been very busy David! I also plan to move several of my plants but into the Summer Greenhouse. I have about 7 weeks to go before I can risk to bring them outside.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I can't wait to get my Rothkirch. I ordered one from NH last September, but haven't received it yet. They emailed me 4 wks. ago and said they would be sending it in the next couple of weeks, but it hasn't gotten here yet.

David, isn't it great to start moving things out and to see plants budding out with new growth and buds. I know that you will have many beautiful blooms on all your plants like you did last summer. I look forward to seeing pictures.

If I could get more outside I'd be able to get to my Miracid which is buried behind everything. Time to start greening things up.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I've started the moving out process too. What was I thinking?? Where am I going to put all of these plants? Any suggestions as to which do better with shade? I have Lots of shade.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

When moving them out, I usually put everything in shade until it is used to the wind, etc. I think EP does better with half day shade. A lot of them do when it gets so blasted hot that it is hard to take a step without sweating. I would try to give all of them some morning sun if you could.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

It's pretty hot out there today. I'm still pretty sunny because the trees have not yet leafed out. I can't believe it's only March, temp is in the 80s and I'm exausted and only just begun.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I can't wait for that exhausted feeling. Walking back and forth to the greenhouse isn't all that much fun. LOL!
