*snif* *snif* Ahhhhhhh........

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Another beautiful brug....oops, wisteria. LOL!! I'm wondering if mine will ever bloom. This will be the third year for it. Pretty pix Barb.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Very pretty.

My neighbor has had one for almost nine years now and just had a couple blooms I think last year. He keeps threatening to take the chainsaw to it if it doesn't bloom this year.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Beautiful! I'm threatening mine.........it had better do something soon.

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

Great pic--waiting to see if my 3 bloom this year--keeping fingers crossed

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Gorgeous pic! I WISH I could smell them. ;)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I've never smelled one. What do they smell like. Strong scent?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Brugie, I drove 50 miles today to shop at some nurseries that have more stuff. I bought an Avery Island Wisteria, it has 30-40 buds/blooms on it and smells like gardenias. It was in a 15 gallon container and was trained as a standard. Now I have to figure out where to put it.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh my gosh, I'll bet that will be gorgeous when it blooms. I hope that since we get so cold it doesn't cause set back every year. I wonder how long they take to bloom from a small rooted plant? I might not live long enough to see mine bloom.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Brugie, I've had mine for three years and it hasn't bloomed yet. Maybe this will be the year it decides to do something. LOL

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Wisteria is so awesome. Have you seen all the wild climbing roses blooming everywhere. Every year I say I going to go dig some up but never end up doing it before they quit blooming then I don't know where they are.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I don't feel so bad then Ada, since we are so cold here.

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Calalily, do you have photo of Avery Island Wisteria? Couldn't find one.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Barb, I'll take one tomorrow. It's not as dark purple as the one I was used to seeing, but it's the only one the nursery had and I couldn't resist.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Ah that wonderful ginger spice smell of wisteria.
My first flower buds showed themselves today....should be about 3 weeks till bloom. I'm so happy :-)
Thanks for sharing your beautiful pic Bward.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Ada, I have read it can take up to 5 to 7 or so years for a wisteria to bloom. That is why you see alot of grafted ones. I would never buy a wisteria unless it was laready flowering. Life is too short to wait!

I found this online for you:
"Reluctance of wisteria to bloom abundantly is usually due to a lack of one or more of the following cultural requirements: full sun, good drainage, and light fertilization in the fall, not spring. Another essential is annual pruning, which can be done by shortening new shoots to five buds in summer. If a grafted or cutting-grown Chinese wisteria refuses to flower in three or four years after planting, or a Japanese wisteria is barren after about seven years, prune it heavily and fertilize with superphosphate. If this fails to produce blooms root-prune by driving a spade into the soil 24 inches from the trunk around the plant."

I am always looking for a deep purple one. Lots of people here have the one I really want, I just can't figure out which one it is. I buy one that I think it is, and then the next year, when in bloom it obvioulsy is not!

This is my pink one, about to open!

Gosh!! So pretty Barb and Kell!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks, Kell. I may have a longer wait for mine to bloom. I don't know how old it was when I purchased it.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

When we lived in Ft. Worth, we had a purple wisteria tree and a white wisteria tree in our front yard. They always bloomed profusely and were gorgeous in the spring. Our kids didn't like them though, because there were always gazillions of bees buzzing around them. When we moved from San Antonio to the country, I purchased a pink one and anxiously waited for it to bloom. After about 5 yrs. it never bloomed, so we dug it up and gave it away. I haven't had one since, but after looking at these pictures, I think I'm going to try again.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Beautiful pictures Barbara and kell! Wisteria belongs to my favorite plants but they wont grow up here.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Barb, it is beautiful and I can just image the fragrance that it has. As a child, I always loved wisteria because the blooms were so long and dangling and very soft. I have a wisteria tree that I bought at the end of summer and it still has not been planted in the ground yet. It is on my project list!!!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Barb, add some azaleas, dogwood, bridal wreath along with that wisteria, and you got Mississippi in the Spring!

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Love my Bridal Wreath, wish it bloomed longer.

I do too, and I wish the aaleas would stay in bloom much longer too.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Here is Avery Island Wisteria. It is more blue than purple.

Beautiful! I have one in my backyard.. For two weeks, it's been blooming and now it's starting to fade and fall off.. I love the smell..

I agreed with Roz.. I wish they stay bloom for long time..

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Great pictures. Love both Bridal Wreath and Wisteria.

Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

i'd love a pink one i think iwill go see if i can try to find one, the spade method works very well,t get wisteria to bloom, i do this to get mine to rebloom every summer, so it will have two flushes.

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Susie, that is beautiful. Is it more blue than the one in my picture?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Barb, it is more blue than your picture. More blue than the "regular" wisteria that I've seen. The nursery didn't have the regular kind so I couldn't compare them.
This plant has been grafted.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Mary, I have never even heard of Bridal Wreath! Yours looks lovely.

Susie, your blue wisteria is great also!

Amanda, aren't you smart to do it again to get a second flush! You would think when it had fully leafed out, root pruning could kill it. Do you prune the top also? I may try it on a few of mine. I understand some naturaly rebloom but I find it is only a few racemes when they do.

Here is a wisteria venustra. It has a very sweet fragrance. The racemes are short and very fat.

I like that one Kell. Now, I need to go repeat 50 times...I don't need more plants, I don't need more plants.........

Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

I am going to have to find me a pink one i don't know whay i keep planting things when i know i am moving next year or before this year is out hopefully, if things work out for us. we found us a house we like 60 acres with a 1 acre lake. with absolutely no flowers in the yard LOl I will have alot of planting to do, and a lot of plant moving to do!! I am considering sinking all mine i have rooted into one gallon pots in the ground this year so it will be less hassle to move them
