Coral Honeysuckle, Trumpet Honeysuckle
Lonicera sempervirens

The buds are a dark purplish color and lighten as they open. Also, the new growth has some purple coloration. Notice how the bloom cluster stems emerge from the center of the veins of the last pair of fused leaves which is very unusual. Shown at the end of March.

Very pretty plants, and not so invasive like Japanese Honeysuckle, which I was hacking at yesterday. I have a piece of L. sempervirens that was in a lot of shade and did not bloom. I moved it to more sun but it still did not bloom last year. Hoping for some blossoms this year!

I hope it blooms for you. These are very well behaved compared to a lot of other honeysuckle plants. Your Peruvian lily is one of the "Premier Series". I just found the tag today.

OH, Thanks for the name of the lily!
I looked for my honeysuckle yesterday and fear that maybe I cut it down when I cut off all the dead Dolichos lablab and morning glories that grow on the same fence....Maybe it will resprout but I doubt it blooms. Now I know what the problem is!

Gretchen, I saw this one at the Sunken Gardens grounds at Brackenridge Park. You must have a really beautiful yard. I am preparing your list and will email you. Thanks for your comments.

Hey! I have it's offspring, Lonicera brownii. Dropmore Scarlet. I took this night shot, last night to show Clare. It's going on a free-standing trellis 7ft tall by 60 in by 60 in.

That is a beautiful plant. The leaves look a lot larger than the ones on the Lonicera sempervirens or is it just my imagination. Wow, when it completely covers the large trellis and beyond, it will be a sight to behold! I like your night shot and your rose is gorgeous. Your trellis painted green is a great idea. I think I may paint mine green and be a copycat. Thanks for sharing.

Actually that is it's color. Home Depot 19.99, it's plastic, real thick and strong. I put everything up on fences, etc with screws. That way they are strong ,but removable.

It sure looks like painted wood. I've never see this kind of trellis at a Home Depot here, but then I haven't been looking for any lately. My neighbor was going to trash 4 very nice red cedar ones and asked me if I wanted them. At first I told him that I didn't need them and then I remembered all of the vines I want to plant this year. Someone had taken 1 of them by the time I had finally made up my mind to take them. Thet are still waiting for me to attach them to the fence. Using screws is a good idea. It has rained so much here it is difficult to complete all of te yardwork that needs to be done, but I an thankful for the rain.

I have a craftsman cordless drill and I got a counter-sinking tool that flips. You counter-sink, then the bit flips , put in the screw. I like screws because they can back out and they hold the item tightly. They also don't bleed on the wood like nails. This is the trellis with the Dropmore Scarlet on it, and part of my backyard.I will have cool ice plant pics in the next few days, April is when it blooms, bottom of picture. Bye!

I like the way you have the trelilles. You will be able to see the plants from both sides. It looks like you have been doing a lot of lanscaping. You have some very good ideas. Your ice plants are really doing well.
