Turk's Cap Lily - Is it ok ....

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

... to plant these in a bed with other lilies?

I know you aren't supposed to plant tiger lilies with asiatics, orientals and trumpets, what about turk's cap?

I just bought two each Citronella and Tenufolium and I wonder if I can put them in the same bed with my Easter lilies and such. If not, can these be near the tiger lilies? I don't want to mess this up ...

Thanx for any advice!

Oh well - I planted a bunch of lilies together - turk's cap, Madonna, Tenufolium....hope they get along.

What's the rationale of not planting these close together?

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

I believe the tiger lilies can carry (while not suffering from) diseases that kill other lilies ... This is why my tiger lilies are segregated. I wonder if these Turk's Cap Lilies fall in the same category ...

ah, well, guess I'll play it safe and just pot 'em up.

Not all L. lancifolium carry the virus but I think you've done the right thing by not planting them together.

If you can, keep all the lilies you have as free as humanely possible of all sap sucking insects, it's aphids and the like that will vector the viruses to your other lilies and early on in the season they can fly.

Thank you, Baa.

I don't want to take a chance on killing my Easter Lilies, tho I would have liked these to be in that same bed. I'm not going to take a chance, tho.

Do you think it's safe to plant the turk's cap and the tiger lilies together?

Cheri'

It's really up to you, are you prepared to chance the risk of your turk's cap lilies being infected with a virus?

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

nope!

I was just thinking that maybe the Turk's cap, like the tiger lily aren't harmed by it, or what ever. But I'm not taking the chance. My lilies are segregated, and that's that. =)

thanx!

How many feet is concidered together? 10, 20, 30? I did not know about this, so am glad it was brought up. I would like to get some lilium this summer and don't want to have them die on me due to my being unaware (i.e. stupid)!

I've read a lot of things ...
This page says 100 ft, which seems reasonable.

But it's not really the space, it's the bugs ... far enough away that the same bug doesn't bite both plants .... it's a problem. =(

Some sources say that it's only the old fashioned orange tiger lily that harbors the virus, others indicate it's hybrids do as well. I dunno. I'm not taking chances.

My tiger lilies are in pots on the patio, about 100 ft from the Easter lilies. The Turk's cap lilies will have to go behind the house, which is even further away. The trick is going to be to kill the bugs that bite the tiger lilies, before they can get to the Easter lilies, I suppose.

So, I have asiatics and orienpets that I bought through the co-op. Can these be planted in the same garden?

yes. It's only the tiger lilies that might be a problem. Apparently they can harbor a virus that will kill other lilies.

At least, that's my understanding ...

I have Asiatic, Trumpet and will soon have Orienpet and Oriental in the same bed. It's the tiger lilies that have to be kept separate, and I'm not sure about the turk's caps.

Thanks for the info!
