I haven't bought a rose in years since I went nuts for Austen roses. It's called Hot Cocoa. Does anyone grow it? I'll bet Roselaine does, she has every rose there is just about. I haven't a clue where I'm going to put it, real estate around here is getting pretty tight. If anyone has a picture of it blooming I'd love to see it.
I bought a rose today

Looking very pretty.....where *are* you going to put it Liz? ;)
still haven't a clue Pam. LOL, it's still in the trunk of my car. I also bought a couple of clerodendron thomsonaie that are in the back of my car. DH ~ seems to have a problem with the number of plants I buy. LOL
Gee I wonder why? Hopefully you will be making babies at some point from all your new treasures! ;) You will have to post many pictures of your yard this year...I gotta see how you are going to squeeze them all in.
I am so envious that you can actually BUY roses to plant. We had snow again today. None of my crocus are popping their pretty little heads either. I think I have a bad case of Zone Envy! D
I'm sorry to hear that Kidneyguy. If it makes you feel any better we seem to be having a monsoon outside right now. Here the camellias are blooming.
Did I just read "camellias"??? Show us a picture Liz.......
me too me too my patio roses arrived from vesey today and i finished the corporate tax stuff tonite so tomorrow i can plant roses and release the 3000 ladybugs that just arrived from westgro in vancouver (death to all aphids in my GH)
I don't have a picture Lilypon. But I have the strangest thing happening in the garden. My roses are about to bloom. Normally they reliably bloom the end of May/June but I have several that will bloom in the next few days.
Our springs can be very strange some years. We have had a couple springs in the last five years where the temps have been in the 80's in May and many of my perennials are finished their blooms a month or two early.
Good idea with the Ladybugs jagonjune...my Dad has purchased them in the past to keep the aphid population down in the yard. Neighbors are always amazed and wondering why the ladybug population has increased a hundred fold in the neighborhood.

Liz, have you got that hole dug yet? That is a gorgeous rose.
LOL, not yet Brugie, soon. lol I'm waiting for Root to come help me. Tomorrow is another day.
Now I get to ask one of those beginner really dumb questions. I started to plant my roses today that I received from Veseys. Soaked the bare roots in the muddy water as per instructions. Planted and cut off any broken bits as per directions. But the waxy stuff that is on the stems when they are shipped??? Am I supposed to remove it and if so how?? or how does it come off???
As far as I know you just leave it on. The plant just grows through it and eventually it melts away.
Elaine?
Thanks
Waxed roses are done for transporting from here to there. just a form of protection! Sometimes people take a hot blow dryer to ease off the stuff. I don't purchase roses in this state. E.
Hi jagonjune: As far as I know wax prevents dessication and permits a longer shelf life. I know of no reason to remove it and have had friends with wonderful roses that were purchased bare root and waxed. You should be fine.
