This is my maya plant. It has been growing like a weed lately and has many little buds on it.
Maya
Nice!! Kristi had one that suckered an all green shoot and it turned out to be a beautiful brug.
They sure seem to bud well it the winter.
Didn't Kristis get to be a named Brug?
I think she named it Mayan Magic. It's a beauty!
Looking good!!!!!
David, what size pot is your Maya planted in. I am now having to pot-up some of my seedlings and some of the cuttings i got from you. I am thinking that someone said don't pot-up in too much larger pot, and besides that I don't have that much room in the greenhouse. I have 5 outside in the passageway between my garage and house. Then if it gets too cold I can move them into the garage at night. They are looking good so far. Donna
One of my favorites. Kristi's Mayan Magic is a beauty. Alice also had that green one come from her snowbank - which was also a dandy.
Great looking plant David. My Maya is recovering from the trip. They don't like to get frozen.
David, I have a green sucker also on my Maya!! They must do that!
Donna,
I'm not sure exactly what size that pot is,it's just something I picked up at wal-mart that I had a house plant in at one time.
The original plant that was in it died and Maya jumped right in,it's one of those self wateres though.
As most of you know last year was my first with growing a lot of brugs, everyone told me the same thing--don't over pot them or you'll kill em!! I potted 2inch seedlings into 35gal pots and bloomed them into 8ft trees within 5 moths and did not have onee single plant to die from doing it. When I repot cuttings as I did yesterday,if the plant is going to be left in a pot I will bump it from the one G's that I start them all in right up to 35-50 G's and have had zero problems doing it.
I am sharing this info as my own personal experience and not saying it will work for everyone or that this is how or what you and end everyone should do to grow their plants. It's just what I did and it worked for me,that's all. I am by no means an expert on the subject and just want to make that clear before anyone starts chewing me up and spitting me out again over something.
I know this is the wrong thread to be bringing this up on but , as for my plants that I am having tested I still don't have any results yet. The lab people told me it could be as little as 3 days or as long as 3 weeks maybe even longer before I hear from them.
When I do hear from them I will start a thread letting everyone know. Test results ((((( WILL NOT!!!! ))))) be posted on this forum. Anyone who received cuttigns from me in November 2003 can email me personally for any info on the subject. I won't post it here because as we all know most of us here are always up for a good fight and I refuse to be the cause of another one and will not be the center of one or deal with any more personal attacks as I did before.
Best of luck on your test results, David.
David,I called my extention yesterday,to try to get my results, seems we have a breakout of some type of Oak tree Virus, and it is tying up the lab, then Easter break coming,so I guess I will be on hold for sometime also.
I hope all goes well.
My two Maya plants never had a green sucker. The flowers of the all green Maya are larger than those of the variegated form. I think Kristi had posted a picture of it
David, I just wanted to let you know the Maya cutting you sent me last Fall made it through the Winter better than any other cutting I have received. I just repotted it in a gal. size pot. Thanks again for your generosity.
Gosh, everyone is having such good luck with Maya and mine croaked. The poor thing just couldn't get any light with all the others around it. I've always had trouble rooting Maya and she probably wasn't even rooted....just dead!! LOL!
David, all of the cuttings that I got from rooted and are fine (except for the spider mites, not your fault!). This is the time of year when plants say that they will hold their breath until they get spider mites if you don't put them outside RIGHT NOW! About half of my established brugs are outside, but none of the newly rooted cuttings or seedlings.
I think that you don't have to worry about potting them in a big pot when they are outside, but it can be a problem if they are going to be inside. Outside, they grow like crazy and fill up the pot, but inside they sulk and can stay too wet.
David: I'm with you on the pot size. The bigger I pot them, the better they seem to do, contrary to what I have heard about them preferring to be root bound. Several days ago I potted some seedlings up from 4" to one-gallon and they are so happy they've doubled in size (leaves and height) since then! I think the key is not overwatering regardless of size, since they don't like wet feet.
I can only imagine what they're going to do once they go into my wonderfully rich garden soil :) Like everything else though, what works for one, won't necessarily work for others.
David, yours sure looks good!
Would you ask your Maya to have a talk with my Maya?
She just sits there pouting :(
I'm wondering if the reason behind putting them in small pots to begin is for us in the north where they can get root rot from being too wet and cold. It does get a bit nippy up here. LOL!! This winter we got down to somewhere between 10 and 15 below zero. Sure am hoping the nice weather is here to stay for a while.
That makes sense to me. We have such a much longer growing season here, maybe that's why mine are doing better in the larger pots. Who knows??? I am completely out of room in that little GH. Planted four flats today and don't feel as though I'm making any headyway at all!
edited to say I planted 4 flats from the GH to the garden...

My greenhouse is definitely green. No room to hardly see shelves now and I'm about half a greenhouse short on space.
David your plant is looking so nice:)
Hope you get good news sweetie!
