Help me with Thunderbird email....

I downloaded Thunderbird into my cpu and set it up and when I type an email and click Send or Check for New mail. Nothing happened. But it said something with POP3. IT said Sending message failed.. The message couldn't send cause of SMTP server POP3 failed. Even I had to type my password several times to send email but it won't work .....
