whats the newest mint this year

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Does anybody know of any new mints out this year, last one I got was snowcones.

I have about 38 kinds now, LOL I must be crazy.

what kinds do you have?

Hey Kathy. I used to be a mint nut too. lol I think at one time the most I had was 28 different ones. But as time passed I decided I wanted the space more for my other obsessions like daylilies and other flowers. The ones I really like got moved to pots and the rest I traded out or gave away. Of course I still find reminders of them in the bed every year where pieces that jumped the buried pots found there way. lol I haven't kept up with the new ones so don't know what the news ones are. What is your favorite of the ones your grow? I think my favorite would be the chocolate. I know it's an oldie but still my favorite.

Fayette, MO(Zone 6a)

38! wow.
I don't know what the newest is, but I do love them.
Only thing is they are so invasive in places. I am anxious for them to come up this year. My chocolate mint is starting to green up.
I got pepper mint, last year. Not peppermint, but pepper mint. Not sure what I would ever use it in, but I like interesting stuff.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

hum, now i've not heard of pepper mint. neat

my favorite out of all of them, oh dear, that's a hard one, I grow the chocolate mint and let it grow wild mow it down just to smell the wonderful scent, do this weekly LOL my pineapple is in a 5 foot area, but I don't care if it takes over ther, it's in plenty of a big enough area. I really like the blackberry and sweet pear, the lavender is so heavenly, identical to the lavender scent. I got some new ones last fall, the julia's sweet citrus, mint julip, marshmallow, margarita, true lemon, algerian fruit, quite a few others. It's really hard to say what my favorite one is. If I had to pick one or two, I guess it would be the grapefruit or lavender mint, or maybe the sweet pear, LOL that's more than one isn't it. There's only a fe w of them that are about to cause trouble, the rest are in areas where they can take over if they want to , I keep them traded out enough to where they don't become bothersome, and I sell them on ebay all the time. last year, my lavender mint went up to l2.00 before the auction ended. can you imagine.
I only paid 3.50 for mine. LOL

here's my mints what I have so far,

apple
pineapple
varigated pineapple
chocolate
blue balsam

Fayette, MO(Zone 6a)

That is quite a collection! I also have kentucky colonel, chocolate, varigated pineapple, apple, and spearmint. I may have a couple others, but can't remember sometimes unless I'm at the garden.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

The only way I remember them all, is I have a complete record inside the house of everything that's outside the house. LOL I try to keep it up to date, but it's hard sometimes.

Oh I forgot about the grapefruit and lime I like those too. lol I was going to say I didn't see mtn mint but I see it now. That one is not invasive and I grow it just for the blooms.

Fayette, MO(Zone 6a)

I used to have one called "Amish mint" it has a fuzzy leaf. Don't know what happened to it. would love to get some more of that.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

now that's one I haven't heard of yet. I'm trying to get some more of the varigated peppermint, but can't find it anywhere.

kathy

Wel, I did find it at the herb-man.com he has reasonable prices too, I have alot of stuff he has just a few of his things I'd like to get .

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I went to memphis this past weekend, and stopped at a little nursery there, they had a wonderful selection of herbs, I didn't have, LOL unbelieveable, I thought I had all the mints one could get , I bought 4 more kinds, and checked them against mine and they weren't the same mints,
I found
brittany's mint patty mint
spice mint
fruit sorbet
and candied fruit mint, they were'tvery strong mints, really mild, unlike all the other ones, that smell up the whole yard. LOL

Coshocton, OH(Zone 6a)

Kathy Ann,
You shared your blackberry mint with me last year and I couldn't get it to root.
Where do you get the really unusual mints? For example, snowcone, blackberry and the iced hazelnut latte mint.
Also, would you have a name and address of the nursery you stopped at in Memphis ? I would like to see if they would ship any.
Thanks so much.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi Jennie, I remember you, how's it going? didn't realize you were over here, cool, Blackberry? that's so unusual for it not to root, That's my best mint as far as growing fast and taking over & rooting. want some more? Alot of it I got from a trader on gardenweb, I don't remember his name, he specializes in mints, and a few other things. He didn't really wnat to trade, but was doing it for a big favor to me, I sent him a ton of soap for his family, and he sent me the mints. I sure wish I knew his name,

Richters has alot of unusual mints, I'm in contact with another lady about trading, haven't herd back from her yet, I just pulled her name off the web. she's not a trader LOL I'll trade with anybody. LOL

I don't know the name of the nursery, It was on poplar street, in it seemed like around the 3000 block, but don't quote me, it was right off the road, hardly no parking, and no greenhouses, seems like there was a canopy over some of it, that place was jammed packed with great plants, and a huge variety, I sure don't know the name though, so sorry, there were two nurseries on poplar, one was a nice nursery, didn't look near as loaded as this other nursery was, I hope you can find it, by the name of the street I gave you.

they had about 7 or 8 kinds there, some I already had those 4 I didn't have though.

Coshocton, OH(Zone 6a)

I would love a start of blackberry again. I have gotten most of mine from Richters.
What is the snowcone like? I like to try them in iced tea. I make hot sugar water and add the tea bags and mints and let them steep. I really liked the marshmallow.
I am hoping my mints come back. I put them in plastic pots and buried them in a huge dirt pile. They still haven't popped, but our weather has been awful. Hopefully, something will sprout this weekend.
Thanks again, let me know how much for postage.

HI ALL.....I'm new at all this but I do have a chocolate mint and a pineapple mint in my tiny garden, the chocolate is in a pot, pineapple in the ground. VERY hot and windy here don't know how they will do. I have never seen so many different types mentioned. Do they have to be grown from seed usually? I also have some different types of sage. Love the sage leaves. This whole mint thing has me intrigued. Will have to pay attention more.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi Faronell most mints have to be grown from plant, divisions, they don't reseed, or you can 't grow most from seed. I love them all
