Tropical Sunset. It just didn't bloom well for me. More bush than I like for the number of blooms. Guess I just made room for something better.
One I let go....
I have always admired the flowers.
I have a couple, plus your seedlings(crosses) of it, have about 5. I will put all of them in the ground for this summer at least.
One of my seedlings was a look alike in color, but the bloom was smaller. I didn't have room to keep it. Wasn't special enough. Hope you get something nice.
Must have been a sad day, huh, Brugie....
Isn't it a shame we don't have room for them all??
But wait...Then that means more work, less sleep....
Nevermind.....
I know where it is if I need a cutting back. LOL!!!
I'll find out soon enough. i got this one in the fall. I like bushy and folage brugs. I get rid of the ones that deleaf in summer.
I am hoping it will like its new home,it sure has done well over the winter.
I'm glad she is still with you. I think it is time for me to bring some out of the garage during the day and see if they are going to come out of dormancy okay.
Is that normal for this plant..? Not blooming well, I mean. I have 2 cuttings of this one and am curious if I am wasting too much time on some that will end up being a disappointment.
Kris, I had this plant for a couple of years and it never did bloom well. Just a dozen or so at a time where others would be loaded. I don't know if that is normal, but it wasn't what I wanted in a brug.
Yes, it is normal for it to only bloom in a few flushes per year or at least that's how it did for me. I decided to give it one more year to impress me, but if it doesn't do good this summer, it's history.
Did you have lots of blooms when it did flush, Susie? I would have kept it if it bloomed in heavy flushes, but it just wouldn't do it.
Since this will be its first year with me, I will see how it does here. I am hoping it will be as exotic as its name..I dont need more green around here, I need color.
When I first read about this brug I knew I had to have it. The information said that it could grow to 12 ft. the first year. That and the color of the blooms hooked me right away. Mine never got over 5 ft. tall, but it did get bushy. I hope you have great luck with it. I did find that mine didn't like the full sun very well. I pouted from time to time.
Should I give it afternoon shade??I would like to get some height out of it.
I sure would. In the sun here, the blooms really drooped and they are such big blooms that they rarely would come back in the cooler part of the day.
