Pink Sunburst Canna

Lake Havasu City, AZ(Zone 10a)

Has anyone grown Pink Sunburst Canna? The information says to grow it in sull sun, but I'm wondering if it should be protected from the late afternoon sun like the Tropicanna because of the varigated leaves. I live in hot and sunny Arizona.

sharon I have grown it before...it took full sun as long as it gets plenty of water.
In San Diego it
grows in full sun OK.

Thanks for the input. I ended up putting two of them in a very large pot in a place on the patio where it gets sun most of the day but is shaded during the late afternoon. I may move it to full sun to see how it does and if the leaves seem to be losing color I can always move it back. It is hot and sunny here most of the time in the summer and often gets over 120!

Oh my gosh, how do you stand it? My niece and her family live in Litchfield Park and they spend a lot of time in the pool in the evening and during the day are inside.

Believe it or not you get used to it...and I moved here from the midwest a few years ago. There is no humidity so that helps but 120 is still very hot....somewhat like sticking your head into an oven! During the hottest part of the day you either stay in the air conditioning, the pool, or the lake. By the way, after just a couple of days my Pink Sunburst is already poking through. Things grow fast here!

Lucky you. I'm hoping to be able to put my cannas in the ground in about two weeks. Stay cool Sharon.
