First Brug

Wynantskill, NY(Zone 5a)

I just bought my first brug today. It's in a 3 gallon pot, and of course I'll be keeping it inside for 2 or 3 days as it's going to be 25 degrees tonight. I have read the brug forum for hours and looked at lots of pictures, but I can't find any info on how to plant the brug in a larger pot and what type soil and soil amendments to use. I know everyone on this site seems to be an expert, but I'd appreciate it if you could help a newcomer. I went to the American Brugmansia website, but I couldn't find basic info there either. Thanks for your time!!

When I put my brugs into the final pot, I loosen the roots as much as I can and then plant, using a good draining potting soil. I use one with chunks of bark and perlite in it. I usually mix in some crushed egg shells, super phosphate, and osmocote. It's not something that I worry too much about as far as the soil goes because I also plant some in the ground and my soil packs badly. So, just jump right in and pot away. I'm sure your brug will be very happy in its new home. I almost forgot....sometimes I amend the potting soil with some composted manure...the bagged kind.

Welcome to the addiction LGW. Sounds like Brugie gave you some very good info on potting them up. Best of luck to you and we'll see how many more you accumulate before much longer. LOL

Welcome to our forum! Please post pics when you can. We are all really beginners here except for Monika. She is the main expert and raises brug growing to an art form. But we all are coming along nicely! LOL

Brugs are fairly easy plants to keep happy. I use fast draining soil in small pots so the roots won't rot in the fall and in the spring I plant in much heavier soil in much bigger pots so I do not have to water as much.

Good luck and let us know how your your new brug does!
