Frozen stem trying to grow

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

This is Golden Lady, the big thick stem froze and was mushy. It is putting out new growth from the bottom, but I noticed yesterday that the frozen stem is trying to grow. Should I leave it, or cut it off?

Wow! They are really coming back. They are tougher than we give them credit for sometimes. Susie it is so green there, Can I come stay with you?

I would cut all frozen parts off on Golden Lady and let her come back from the bottom. In the fall, I would choose the nicest trunk and root it by airlayering to obtain a nice tree again. 365 days growing season...........you are a lucky girl!

Down to 21 here last night. I'd take a 365 day growing season any time.

Monika, thank you. I wasn't sure what to do, but wondered if the previously frozen part would be weak and disease prone.

I had once a severe frost damage on a Luminosa Tree. I was able to save him, even though, most of the bark was gone. He had blue patches all over from the lac balsam and even started to overgrow the frost lesions with callous. But the growth was weak and because of it, I rooted a long stalk to obtain a new tree.
