It didn't freeze below the Y, so it should be OK shouldn't it? I don't know if the amount of damage has to do with where they were in the trailer, how much wind and cold they got on the way down, or if it's all genetics.
I think this one is OK
Oh my, is that were the alligator lives? It looks so lovely and calming. Chomp chomp!!
can't ya just hear the Jaws theme.........
OK, now I'm afraid to go back out there! I'd forgotten about the gator, now y'all reminded me.
That's what that big wooden fence is for, gators can't climb!
Nah, they don't climb, they dig......
OK, not going back out today........gonna stay inside all day.
Just be careful at night....If you step on a rock and it moves, it ain't no rock!
No way I will go out at night, we have coyotes, bobcats, javalinas.........I think I moved to the outback or something!!
Any possums? You need possums, they would get rid of that pesky bobcat on the roof, possums like roofs, don't they.
Imagine the noise! Or noises?
You have nice pets there Susie!
It starts at sundown, the coyotes start to howl. They have an eerie call. The bobcat is noisy, usually around 2 am, he gets on the roof, chasing possums I guess, lol. We have nighthawks and night herons too. Then the loons start, they sound like someone screaming, will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
I do love it here though, no streetlights, the stars are so bright because we are a long way from the big cities and the only noises are nature sounds, even though they can be scarey sometimes.
Tracey, send that possum you have living on your roof, I think he might hold his own against that cat!
ROTFLMBO, sending him right down, he is too expensive for me!
You need some peacocks...their screach will scare the heck out of all them critters
I think a peacock would look good here. Wonder what the neighbors would say?
Frank and I would love to live there. All we have is a half tame fox and lots of deer, which chomped off all new sprouts from our shrubs in the back yard. Instead of growing, their size was reduced more and more until we put a fence around it.
In the past, we had caught many racoons in the trap. They did so much damage on the fruit trees that we had to replace several of them. From September to October, during the rutting season of the european elk (red deer), the elks come close to our house and your hear them bellow and if your are lucky, even see them fight.
We have the quiet critters her...deer and rabbits. Boy, they can do some damage.
Shirley, we dont have rabbits up here but a few hares.
What is the difference between rabbits and hares?
Remember Watership Down? One of my favorite books!
Thats a good question LOL! Rabbits are smaller, love to dig holes and live in groundholes. Hares are much larger, have longer hind legs, do not live in holes but like to hide in hedges. The young ones are able to move right after birth.
WOW , who knew you were a rabbit/hare expert too! LOL
Well then, we have hares. Ours live in brush piles and under the pine trees and come out to eat the tender growth off of everything. I guess I'm going to have to get out the pellet gun and have hare stew before they decide to have babies. LOL!
OH NO!! do not do that Brugie! I used to have a pet rabbit. Gracie! A huge flop earred. She was a doll but she hopped all over eating as she went. I had no bulb ever come up after I got her. I had to give her away when I had my boy. She was huge and if she did not want to be picked up she would use her hind legs on you and could really inflict damage. Any way, when we gave her away she became a he!
LOL Kell. These little furry critters around here are not the flop eared variety and there isn't much pretty about them, especially when they eat my plants. Every year they eat my beets and I have to either kill them off or keep spraying rabbit repellent. If I spray, they just move to something else. A couple of years ago, I planted a bed of lettuce just for them to eat so they would leave the other stuff alone and they wouldn't touch it. Not a critter that I want for a pet around here.
Man I'm soo envious! You folks have wonderful plants growing already while all my stuff is inside under lights. Its just not fair!LOL
Jeff
JLD, give us a month and we will be saying "send us some of that cool weather down here!"
Susie sounds like such a wonderful new home you have.
YOu got a wonderful home! I am happy for you.. We just moved in our new house!
Now we need some more dirts.. we need over 10 loads of dirts.. and do the landscape.. It would be nice to have some Dg friends and come and help me with landscape around house.. It will be FUN!
Monika,I remember stories, when I was in Germany,of Hares in Grafinver(sp?) that where 3 ft tall.or was it Hornsfeld?
You must have made the Germans stand up and take notice of you Root! I bet they never were the same. So can you speak German?
Root, I think, you are talking about Grafenwöhr. It is besides Wildflecken one of the largest army places. The size fits, inclusive the long ears LOL. They may as heavy as 20 pounds.
That is it Monika!!! it is near an army range.
We have both here ... hare's & rascally wabbits!!!
Grafenwöhr is well known. What year have you been there?
I was there of and on,from 76 to 79,we had to work on the Tank Ranges there.
Brugie: There is a product called Liquid Fence that I have used since last Summer to keep the deer and bunnies from munching on my babies and it works quite well. It comes RTU or concentrated. The concentrate makes four gallons and costs about $30. A small price to pay, all things considered. And its somewhat rain-proof. I usually apply it every couple of weeks.
Gretchen, I bought some of that last year and my goodness, it does stink until it is dry. I think this year I'll go back to buying Rabbit Scat and mixing the powder with water. It is much cheaper and doesn't smell. It does have to be re-applied after a rain, but I think the other does too.
and Frank shot it all to pieces again LOL He was there from 62 to 64
