Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Does anyone know if Engelstrompeten by Monika Gottschalk is still available anywhere?

I'd love to get a copy.

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Monika,

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I've seen lots of post praising your book. I am really looking forward to getting a copy.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Welcome here Tree_Climber!!! Are you just starting your addiction? And already you got to speak to the master Monika! LOL I am so glad you came over to join us.

Look at this picture on this thread. This picture is what inspired so many of us to grow our brugs in the tree form and try to copy Monika's alley. Have you ever seen anything so great?? Her book will tell you how!

LOL. I forgot to add the thread to look at!

Thanks for the welcome Kell ................ Yes, I am just starting. I don't even have one brug yet, ( I have ordered one), but I am alread addicted.

I'm trying to read and find out as much as I can. I could spend all day reading the post in this forum and looking at the pictures. What picture were you trying to direct me to?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

OH.....so sorry.......this one!
http://davesgarden.com/t/311740/

Which one did you order?

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh yes ............... That picture did catch my eye ;-)

I ordered an unmarked 1 year old plant .....

I also ordered 4 smaller ones:
insignis coral
Isabella
Kyle's White Giant
Jamacia Yellow

I may have ordered too quickly, as now that I have been looking at all the varieties shown in this forum .... I have some must haves!

I did order with the intent of sharing with my sister-in-law and maybe one of my sisters. I thought they would make great gifts and get them to join in on my new addiction.

So .... ... I may have to get a few more.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Tree climber.....and so it begins! The good thing about these are they so easy to start new plants for friends. I just know you will love these.

There are tons of good brugs store out there. Here is one done by our very own Tracey. She has lots of special ones and she has L'Amour!! This one is sure a beauty! As seen on this thread: http://davesgarden.com/t/422156/

You've come to the right place. LOL
We all start "too quickly" (lol) but after a short time you'll realize everyone here on DG will be more than helpful & generous with anything you might need.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Welcome Tree_Climber, great addiction you have. This is only my third year of growing Brugs and I'm still collect the must haves. When you get started, you want them all. LOL

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the welcomes everyone. I can't wait to get my first Brug! and I really look forward to sharing them with friends. For me that is one of the most rewarding parts of gardening ..... sharing plants and knowledge.

Now Kell, you had to go and give me another source for buying them .................... LOL, I'm doomed. (or if you look at it another way "blessed")

Well I took a peek .............. great site you linked me up to. I saw a beauty in the garden gallery "Big Yella Courtesy of Kell Macdonald"

There's no stopping now ................... ;-)

Oh yes ........... L'Amore is now on my list of must haves too.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Welcome TreeClimber.

Kell sure is a GOOD salesman.....errr woman!

You'll be getting plenty of new brugs before this year is over.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Gloria, I think L'Amour sells itself!! And it is one that does not root so easily. Better to buy those then the ones that are so easy to root.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

RUN!!! Treeclimber!!!
That is how it starts,One,then that miss have list gets long, then it gets short as you start getting them, then as you get your first bloom, the list starts again!!!
Root.
Where bouts is Browncity?

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Yeah, run like Root Doctor did (towards the blooms.) LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Ada, so true!! Root is so addicted he will drive miles to see them!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Did I mention I have drove 1174 miles in the last week on my Brug quest?!?!!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

And you're going to the Roundup when? LOL

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Well Root, you could have driven all the way down here to see me!

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Really Susie, he could have, he has really put some miles on this week!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Yes, and you should see all the pots he brought me. Some will go to the roundup, but we guessed that there were probably 4-5 hundred of them, most one to three gallon size and by the way Tracey...thanks for the ones you sent. I'll put them to good use.

Whitewater, WI

Root, didn't you realize when you became a Doctor that you'd be spending alot of time on the road with your "house calls"??? hehe

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

shoot, i just bought 200 pots!!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I just bought 440, Kell.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I bet Ada! I just saw your last thread. Did you get a good deal?? on line?

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Kell, I purchased from this site: http://www.growersupply.com/blowmolcon.html. The trade gallon was 200 for $30.

I like to put my Brugs in the new ones and use the used pots for everything else. LOL I like the newest and best for my Brugs.

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Such a great group of people. So welcoming and friendly.

I'm not running away, I'm diving right in.......... ;-)

Brown City is a small town in the thumb area of Michigan. We live on 20 acres out in the country, south of town a bit. About ten acres are heavy woods and the rest is a mixture of trees and open areas. We're transplanted from the Suburbs (about 3 years ago) and love country life.

Good thing I have plenty of room in the basement and some sunny windows for wintering over Brugs. I have a small portable greenhouse, but a permanent one is at the top of our "to do" list.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Kathy, when you get into growing Brugs, you'll need plenty of room because you'll always want more. LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Wel Tree_climber, this is the place to jump in at! LOL. You will be among brug nuts. Sounds like you have so much room to really go crazy! Lucky you!

Gee Ada, you did better than I did I think. I got medium weight 100 for $42. I wonder if mine are much heavier. Did you have to pay shipping? how much was that? I paid no extra for shipping. Would you post a close up when you get them and let me know if you like them? Thanks

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Tree_Climber, this is the place to be for Brug nuts. If you have any questions, dont hestitate to ask!
10 arces are a good size to grow a lot of Brugmansias.

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Can you believe it, I'm so hooked, that I'm looking for directions for hand pollination so I can create some crosses, and I don't even have one Brug in the house yet............

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Tree_Climber, here is a fast and easy to read site on brugs. The pollination pics are so telling. Click on pollination. These were done by a Dave's member who used to have a huge Jungle House! Now she is going to have a huge Jungle yard!! LOL

http://calastropicals.com/content/page1.html

She also usually has great seeds for sale so reasonably.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Then it is the time to obtain some Brugs LOL!
I am cultivating Brugmansias for over 25 years now and they still fscinate me. Its exciting, to raise seedlings. You never know, what the blooms will look like unless it is pure species.

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the Link Kell.

Monika ............... don't worry I have some coming. Now all I need is your book.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Monika, what has been your most exciting brug seedling since you began crossing them?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

It has been the Rubirosaline. I had 32 seedlings, which all looked alike. I gave quite a few to a person in Germany and kept the rest for myself.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

So, my next question is: Do the seedlings all look alike or did you keep certain ones for different characteristics? I found this thread that appears to be one of the seedlings. Boy, Ludger is lucky to have this. http://davesgarden.com/t/392143/
I would love to one day have one of your Rubirosa line brugs. The color and shape on the brug in this picture is outstanding.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

They are F1 hybrids and all looked alike. The differed a little bit in their flowering habits. Rubirosa, Rose Beauty, Rubinfeuer and Rubinglut flower in pronounced flushes, while the others have a few flowers between the large flushes.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I don't remember Rubinfeuer and Rubinglut. Did you ever post pictures of them in bloom. I can see I need to do another search. Thanks!!
