Monika, more help needed, lol

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Are these hopeless? I have a lot of brugs that look like these, they didn't freeze all the way to the ground, but did die back below the Y. Should I chop this all the way back and start over? Help, I'm afraid I'll make a bigger mess.
The leaves are tattered from a wind storm, so ignore how bad they look. They are growing new leaves but I didn't remove the old ones so no one could see the ugly "sticks" that would be left.

Boy Susie, that will be so gorgeous when you put your mark on it all! I can see us all lying out there with your cabana boy serving us long cool ones! LOL

Will you be able to plant a wind screen along your fence?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Kell, I'm working on a wind screen now. The fence on three sides is 6ft so that helps but not enough. The yard is 180ft wide, so the wind kind of swirls around in the middle! I'm getting clumping bamboo from a nursery down the road and have started planting the tall variety of bananas along the windy side of the fence. There are palms on the other side which help block a little wind.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

They look pretty good to me. I would let them grow Susie. The sprouts are just below the Y and it may not take long and they form a new Y but if you chop them back, the sprouts, coming out of the ground, will need longer to form the Y. If I was you, I would choose in the fall a strong sprout, which has a semi wooden Y and root it to obtain a nice looking shrub again. Do you have any frost during the winter!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Mercy, no wonder you moved to Texas! Purty!

(What's that planted to the left of the brug? Looks like it has orange-ish flowers.)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Thanks Monika, so glad I asked before I started chopping!!!
I will probably have to ask in fall if it's the right time. I've got to get used to this 365 days a year growing season! We are a frost free climate.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Susie that is just the most horrible looking mess I have ever seen, I can't believe you have to live in such....... You come on up here and stay, and I will go live there so that you don't have to suffer such. Hey thats what friends are for right! :)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Shoe, that orangish plant is bush allamanda. It blooms all year round down here.
Tracey, so glad I have friends who are willing to come stay here in the mess and take care of my plants knowing about the gator and all. That would also mean I get your greenhouse right?

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

UHHHH, I hadn't thought of that...... but sure, I could live with the gator, they taste like chicken, and make nice boots! Everything in the ground will sure make things much easier for you.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

They taste like BOOTS!!!
NOT chicken!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

365 days growing season????? Ooooooooooooooooohhhhhh, I just turned green of envy!
Susie, I have to offer a small house in the middle of Nature, a 6m and 8m long hoophouse, a well isolated winterhouse, skiing area with a long season, Thermal bath close by etc. I agree with Tracey, we have to help you LOL.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

I say gator tastes like shrimp when it is fried.....

Great looking place Cala!....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Man, if it tastes like shrimp, bring it on. LOL!

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Susie I think you better find some other bait besides chicken before CC comes after you. lol CC your chickens are to pretty for bait anyway. lol

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

One huge shrimp! LOL Brugie!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Monika, come on down, there is an international airport about 25 miles north of here and an international seaport(I don't think you like to fly, right?) about 15 miles south of here. The oranges are blooming and the air smells great, our rainy season is over and hopefully the wind has quieted down for a while.
Now if gator tastes like shrimp, I'm gonna go find that pest and cook him! Of coure, I could run down to the docks and just buy shrimp!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Susie, your invitation is very very tempting! I would choose the boat trip. If it sinks, there is still a chance to make it LOL. Winter would suit best, I would let Frank handle all the snow here while I will rest in the sun LOL!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

LOLOL you all.

Orange Park, FL(Zone 8b)

Tis a shame that messy yard and pool...
It appears I need to come down there as well to give a helping hand!

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Pool party at Susie's, Monika is coming! We need to schedule it about Mid-Oct early Nov.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Yes, great timing. My yard should be pretty well put away for the winter. Let's see. I will have to find a plant sitter and drop Jim off at his brother's in Rockdale, TX and then Parteeee time.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Boy oh boy, I can smell the BBQ and crawfish now.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I want tempura alligator tail!!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

"drop Jim off at his brother's in Rockdale, TX and then Parteeee time"????

Does this mean this is a women's only party? Waaaaahhhh....!

(If I wear a wig, some falsies, and the lower half of a bikini, ya think I could sneak in?) (I'll even behave.) ;>+

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Sounds like a winner to me! How many want to come? It will still be warm in October, but if it's too cold to swim, the pool has a heater. We have a grill to BB-Q on, lots of room for folks to sleep, gator in the resaca for Kell.........Shoe, you can come too, but please, no falsies...you might scare the gator.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee, 2 fantastic invites in 1 day. One to texas heaven and one to brug heaven in Germany! Be still my heart. You all sure are a fun group! I had a blast today, did little work but sure smiled all day long!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

It tastes like a cross between shrimp and chicken to me, pretty close to frog legs. Bring it on!
By the way, when those of you in northern climes wish for longer hotter seasons, remember this: It gets very hot and muggy, lots of bugs all the time, can't go anywhere or do anything without air conditioning, and can't even enjoy out-of-doors much at night. Although, I guess you do get somewhat aclimated to it if you live there long enough. But all those "snowbirds" go back up north for a reason (or to the mountains of NC, GA, & SC) for a reason.....

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

If we wait till October, there won't be any crawfish, peak season is about now, but that alligator is sounding better and better all the time!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

You better dont tell the gator, what we were talking about. He be might become scared and will leave, before we will arrive LOL!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Mary, they have crayfish farms here now!! You can go to some farmers markets and buy them live. We are just not used to eating them though. I have bought them twice. Not much meat.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I don't think we can call the NC ,SC, ..snowbirds......that were people up here run to in the winter...LOL

and we can get into what its like up here in winter and you know you don't want to be here...

I'd give up my snow Paradise any day for southern living...I'd even learn how to say yyyaaallllll
