Hi folks, boy we had a doozy storm blow thru yesterday evening into last night. High winds, thunder, lightning and heavy rain. I can see the top out of a sycamore in one of our fields, not near any buildings thankfully. Our power was out for about 3 hours.
I'm a volunteer with the National Anatolian Shepherd Rescue Network and I organize transports to get the dogs from one place to another for fostering or adoption. I finally got a transport done this weekend for a dog going from Deatsville, AL to Little Rock, AR to a new foster home. He's finally traveling today, this is the second weekend of trying to get him transported. It has been a very stressful transport even though it's not that far. I had everything worked out for last Sat when I received an email from the boyfriend of one of the people supposed to do a leg of the trip. It was a very abusive email calling me a con-artist among other things. I think his girlfriend volunteered him for this without asking and then lied to him blaming me for everything. He sent this late Friday night so I was on the phone with all the drivers at 11pm cancelling the trip for the next morning. I swear some people are impossible to understand. Hopefully Storm will have a safe trip today and will be in a safe place finally, this poor dog was rescued from a kill shelter, was heartworm positive and had to be neutered.
On top of the stressful transport my two Anatolian goat guardians, Hawk and Adyrr, are missing I took them to the vet Fri for their vaccs and a heartworm test for Adyrr and when I got home I had my good shoes on so just stuck them both in the front pasture(I keep Addy in the back pasture) and came in the house to change, I got distracted with a phone call about one of my foster dogs and by the time I got back out there they were gone :~( I've had Hawk for a year and he never tried to get out of the pasture. I know he followed Adyrr out of the fence somewhere, maybe a tree fell over the fence in the woods or something because I just don't know how they could get out. My hubby and I drove around yesterday looking for them and passing out flyers so people will keep an eye out for them. They are so big I'm afraid someone will shoot them before even trying to find out if they're friendly especially if they get near livestock. They both have collars and id tags on thankfully. I guess we'll go out again today and look for them but they usually sleep during the day and are active at night which makes it hard to find them. I keeping hoping for the phone to ring. Everyone please keep your fingers crossed for Hawk and Addy's safe return.
Kjo, glad to hear your doe is doing so well with her triplets! I just last weekend sold a buck kid, one of triplets, to a boy for 4-H cheap just so I wouldn't have to moniter their feedings anymore. The doe had plenty of milk for all of them but the 2 bucks kept knocking the doe off the teat until she was almost starved. Now the remaining two kids are doing great with no help from me :~) The boy who bought the buck had a doe who had lost her kid and they have the buckling nursing off her while they hold her.
Lisa, so sorry to hear about your dh losing his job. I've heard bad things about Jim Walters Homes but from a buyers perspective, I think they are crooks. Your hubby sounds a lot like mine...if someone has a problem getting along with Brian then they have a serious problem! He's very laid back and accepting of everyone. I wish I were as nice as my hubby ;~) I got a good laugh from the story of your holey pants Lisa! I'm sure you didn't think it was funny though LOL.
darius, glad you come and hang out!
Jewel, sorry to hear you had another heifer calf...I know you were hoping for a bull. Maybe you could sell that lamb that falls over really cheap to someone as a pet so it won't have to compete against the others for food.
On a gardening note my daffs are blooming on the protected side of the house(they always bloom first) and I have lillies and hosta poking their heads out. I really need to clean the beds out this week, I haven't done any work on them at all this winter.
Sorry this post is so long, guess I was relieving some stress by rambling :~) Everyone take care! Lana
Here's a pic of Amber hiding under the computer desk trying to get away from Tootsie...as you can see it doesn't work too well!
