Cannas in Pots

Lake Havasu City, AZ(Zone 10a)

Has anyone had any experience growing cannas in pots? Can I grow the tall ones in pots also or should I stick to dwarf cannas? The pot I want to use is about 16 inches wide and 12 inches deep. How many cannas should I plant in a pot for a nice full look without crowding the roots?

Pots are fine for dwarfs and mediums up to 4 ft. No more than 3 rhizomes per pot......the rhizomes grow over the season producing more eyes.

I have started mine in pots, but they are going outside in the real garden as soon as the weather is good enough.

Hey you guys,
Hop on over to the new Cannas Forum! I'm a newby, and there's tons of info on cannas in pots. I have 10 new Stuttgarts I'm about to plant, and the Canna gurus have told me all I need to know.

I had all mine in containers last year and they bloomed. Some of them were probably in to small of containers and they still bloomed...lol.

They do fine here and I grow most in 1 gallon containers. The thing to do is keep them feed and watered and they should do fine. A canna can fill up a 1 gallon pot fast so in summer heat I may have to water twice in one day. Usually at night and during the day.

My mom grows hers in pots and the foliage seems to get less ragged looking- my main complaint about cannas.
