Bringing out the babies after a winters rest, and getting thru the hardening process for a couple weeks before putting them in the garden for a summer vacation
Lets get this show on the road!
Everything looks great Tropicman. I look forward to seeing new photographs after everything has been planted.
They're looking good after their long winter's rest! I'm sure that they greatly appreciate the fresh air and sunshine. Is that salt marsh hay that you mulch the plants with in your 1st picture? If so, where did you obtain it? Do you just mulch them heavily or do you bring them back in for the night?
I'm chicken....I haven't put my tropicals outside yet. We still got frost last night. Keeping those babies warm inside for a while longer.
Thanks Delecie,
Shirl, thats just regular wheat straw,I have been leaving some of the plants out over nite, ones that can take a little cooler weather,we haven't had a frost in about a week, but if it gets close to one I can bring the more tender ones back in,or cover with straw.
If the temps are only cool for a couple hours it doesn't hurt them, cause it warms back up quickly when the sun comes out.
Its gambling a little, and trusting the weather mans forecast.
Just went and checked on my cannas and elephant ears lost about half of them, this is the worst I ever had with overwintering them, some where to moist still I guess and others weren't moist enough when I put them away for winter.
Bryan, what a shame about the ears and cannas. Must be very frustrating. Your 'jungle' looks very exciting. You must post a pic or two of them in the summer. Do you spend a lot of time in your greenhouse in the winter and is it a case of gardening all year round? I hope to set up a polytunnel this year to overwinter some tender plants. I know I'd be in heaven if I could garden all year round which would get me away from the winter blues.

Prudence, they'll produce more when I get these in the ground, and 3 times this again next fall.
Everything is looking great TMan!!!!!
I meet Jeff the other day,we are planning a GH run this weekend, and have discussed a run to your place later in the summer!!
What a great guy!
Sounds great come on down for the island tour!!!!
Don't buy to heavy on your greenhouse run, save room for what you take home from me,I have way too much to overwinter again!!!
