Good morning folks,
Hope everyone had a Happy St. Patrick's day. I actually remembered to wear green yesterday, so the kids weren't pinching me like they were last year. I told them that my eyes are green, but that evidently didn't count, I got pinched anyway. LOL
The calves are being born now, and it's a soupy mess in the cattle yard. We had to shut a cow into the barn on Tuesday because she had the calf in a mud puddle. DH wanted to tube feed him some colostrum, so he went and got some fresh stuff from the neighbors. We ended up cutting the end off the tube as the cats must have been chewing on it at one time. I was wondering why DH was bothering with the calf because he was laying in the straw with his head back like he was going to die any second. I must have had a strange look on my face because DH said that he was sitting up looking at him just 10 minutes before. Well, we tube fed him anyway and decided that mama must have stepped on him or laid on him and he was trying to catch his breath. It's probably a good thing that we went into the barn right then if she was laying on him. By the time we got out of the barn, we were covered with dirt as mama likes to paw the floor. She wasn't mean, just trying to show us who was boss. DH said that she didn't like my outfit. LOL (I was in sweat pants and just threw on my cowboy boots to go help!) When I went to check on him yesterday after work, he was sucking like mad and butting the cow. It's nice to be able to save the calves after they get such a muddy start. He got kicked out of the barn this morning.
Two days until spring. Woo Hoo!! After the foot of snow that we had on Monday, it's good to have it in the 50's today. It sure didn't last long. Now we just have to get through tornado season!!
My back yard is a real mess and I'd like to get the mower out already. DH will think I'm nuts, but there are a few spots with taller grass that didn't get mowed last fall. All my seeds are getting planted this year, all the partial packets that I've saved. I had planned to make rows with the tiller and leave enough space between for the mower. We'll see how far I get.
Think spring everyone!
