Am I seeing things?

I'm not sure, but is this little guy making a Y? This is one of the seedlings I started in December, not a cutting. In background: 12" ruler. The plant including pot is less than a foot tall.

That is a Y!!!! Congrats!! Look close, the first bud is usually, right in that Y,most times it does not mature, but is a way to see for sure if it is a Y.

But the plant is a midget - really, it might be 5 inches tall at most from the soil line to the tip of a hair on one of the leaves. Has anyone had this happen to a seedling? Any ideas why it happened?

Hummmmm....now if that plant gives you a double/triple pink then I'm gonna flip out!.....lol.

Sometimes seedlings will split into two trunks but not actual Y's. I have one in the greenhouse that did it and I believe I read someplace that one side should be removed, but since mine was not an important seedling, I left it. Both sides are growing and getting more leaves, but no sign of subequal leaves or buds.

I have had them Y smaller than that,I was in a GH this weekend, and some plants had full blooms on them, the plant was not more then a couple feet tall.
This was from a cutting, and this plant is know to bloom short.
Seedlings are a different story.

My smallest Y.

I have several seedlings that have "y'd" and they have equal shape and leaves on each side. They are smaller than the ones that haven't "y'd" -- all started at the same time. I wondered if they will flower more quickly than the others.

This will be interesting to follow,so maybe we will have better answers next season.

Please tell us which one that is Root, that is known to bloom short?

L Amour,at least all the ones I saw,TLynn will ID it for sure.

Some of my seedlings have what appears to be a Y, but is more likely a double stem. I have been watching them, and one side of each is starting to dominate the plant.

They will do this sometimes if the growth tip is damaged, even if it is as minor a bug bite. Remember how all my Susie seedling had multiple branches, just was from the freeze they encountered.

So.....are we supposed to do something to those that are like that??? It seems to me kind of like pinching back to encourage a bushier plant. I know I read a post somewhere that stated why you don't want to do this -- does it delay flowering? Thank you!

I found what I was referring to:

If that is what happened to the ones that "split", will they still bloom this year?
