Summer can't come soon enough for me. I just found this pic, and I need summer. NOW!
Waiting for summer
Looking good Liz......what's it like out there now?? Are the tulips showing?
I don't know Pam, I don't do spring bulbs. I gave up fighting the squirrels.
The weather has been really good. Enough that some of the brugs have been hardened off and are ready to stay outside. Not all mind you. Now if I could only get the Ears out and the hibiscus, I'd be laughing.
How's it at your place?
:b ......still two and 1/2 feet of snow....... :b
My sister in law lives in the Gatineau. Here our spring starts early and lasts for a couple of months. Her spring seems to last a week before it goes right into summer. lol. She catches up pretty quickly.
The melt is starting....water is running down the streets. We are actually looking at temps above zero for the next little while. :)
Oh Liz.....what a gorgeous bloom! :) It has summer COLOR! :)
The early tulips are out here! Some nearly finished. Liz is that an ORANGE hibiscus I see?? LOL Dawn
Yes, that's The Path, sunrize. I've been moving it in and out for the last week. I'm desperately in need of ROOM.
When are we going nursery hopping? I'm ready for a road trip.
Me, too! Where and when is the issue. Beautiful hibiscus, Liz--Are you really moving in and out already--brave soul. All I've got out is borderline stuff that has been in the garage all winter so almost freezing at times +1 I think it got down to.
My hedychiums that were in pots have been out for the last week, the alpinias, fuchsias have been going in and out, brugs in and out, but I think they're ok to stay out overnight now (the suaveolens only), lobelia tupa, tibouchina has been out for a week, plumbago, cannas that were in pots are out for good, iochromas. I have to look up the min temps for the clerodendron ugandenses, I'd like them out too, they're pretty big.
what is a brug ? not to sound stupid but I am new to this and have no clue what you are talking about thanks shawn
Ladies you are killing me...nurseries already!! *humph*
Watch out ziekertail.......you've just discovered a horrible addiction!! LOL! And the major supplier! ;)
Pam if I didn't have such a ridiculously small gh I wouldn't be pushing plants outside. There is a sequence to when you put brugs outside.
Six more weeks here if I'm lucky. The greenhouse is full. Have 80 brugs in it plus tons of other stuff. Something's going to have to give.
And how many more brug seedlings are you germinating Shirley? 70-100 ?? LOL. We're hooped!
so if I went to a garden store and asked for some brugs they would know what I am talking about here in zone 6?
Liz, you don't even want to know. I know I'm going to have to give some less important brugs away at the roundup. I don't have a lot of "new" seedlings. It is so late now that I think I'll plant the rest of my crosses this fall.
They may or may not......ziekertail check out a company called
http://www.brugmansiasetc.com .
...........remember I did *warn* you!! ;)

very nice are they hardy at all ?
That's the zone denial thing, ziekertail, not at all. lol. They go into basements and garages to go dormant over winter.
okay thats what I thought ,this fall I was thinking of making a 10 by green house hopefully I end up building it
ziekertail, if you're starting a new garden, you don't need these plants. You need to get your trees and shrubs and base perennials in first. You'll have fun doing that.
OK....you all must know.....but I don't! LOL. So Miss Lizzy, what is in the first pic? A lily? It looks so tall!
It is tall Kell, about 10ft. It's a cardiocrinum, it take 7 years to bloom. It should be called Patience Plant.
It is worth the 7 years! Just loveley Liz! Can you buy it when it is 6 years old and plant it? LOL Is it a huge plant?
I got mine last year when I went up to visit Jeanne. It was a 7 year old plant, about 3ft tall. That was May. By July it was 10ft and blooming. The mother plant dies after blooming, but it puts out pups.
So do the pups then take another seven years...I know dumb question. How many years will one bloom?
I think 3 years Shirley. lol, ask me in 3 years.
You cheated Liz!!! LOL
I know Kell ~ loving it!
Gloating becomes you. My cardiocrinum was a pup at least 5 yrs ago from VanDusen. Never has bloomed. Of course, it is tucked in nearly under a cedar tree and I'll be suroprised if it makes an appearance this year, and if it does--I'll move it, which it doesn't like either. So I'm glad I got to see yours in person. Now--where to move it? Oops! I have lied. It's a fir tree. Maybe that's why it reappears. Anyway hard to find a place here not under a fir or cedar .

You need to plant one every year for several years so you always have one blooming. I read on one site that they were perennial to zone 5 and another site said zone 7. Guess for $14 per bulb, I'll not even try it because with my luck, zone 7 would be right. LOL!
Oh to have a huge yard!
Ah Yes! But as you have seen, logic aside, they are spectacular are they not? Worth the waiting and expenditure? Best to cheat and who could possibly blame you! On the evacuation of the glasshouses--I could just envision the invasion of the brug seedlings, etc. in minds' eyes even before anything was moved.
I missed you tonight sunrize, and you, roselaine, at the garden club meeting.
For some reason, I can't skip the meetings now, I am the one driving around with bags of soil in my trunk just in case anyone needs soil for the garden sale. Roselaine, I'll get you for this. LOL
Lizzie, first you have to find me!!!!!!!! I have been back and forth to Fort Langley, and this Sunday morn I'll be out there for half a day helping mommy with the twins! I slept in 'til 8 this morning........yea!!!!!!!! I had the better plan, everyone came to me who wanted soil! LLiz, do you want to come with Dawn and me on out gdn outing with the Deep Cove gang, this Saturday?
Love to but am going to Whistler. Where are you going?
