chinese liliums

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

i found this website, totally by accident. the lazy ss farm has been working on propogating chinese lilium and they have some for sale. such interesting and all new to me, varieties. a bit expensive, and some not available until the fall, but they sell them in 3 sizes. large (mature) bulbs will bloom this year, medium next and small 2-3 years (most likely). but that gives those of us with more time than money the opportunity to try these.
note: large (mature)for some of these bulbs is the size of a marble!

lilium majoese only grows 4-8" tall. they look like little lanterns. when open the petal tips stay fused together to protect the reproductive systems.

Thanks DebiZ for a great site. Too bad so many are for zone 5 upward. I live in zone 4, but do purchase zone 5 bulbs and plants just to make life interesting.
