Cannas

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

I just got some cannas in from Touch of Nature. Planted some out today, but have to wait for sewer lines to be dug and installed before I can plant anymore. Looks like maybe a week or 2 weeks.

How long can I store these cannas to be safe and how should I store them? Miss OKlahoma, Red & Yellow King Humbert & Stadt Feltbach.

Molly, I had good luck last year storing them in the bags they came in (plastic with holes) in my garage where it was cool but not cold. Generally when cannas are sent they are dormant and unless they are warm, they won't start growing for a while.

Thanks Brugie, I appreciate it.

I took some cannas out in trade here on DG. The first in Dec and the second time just in Feb. I planted each of them when I received them. Even tho they haven't flowered yet, I like their growth performance so I got some more. That's Black Knight and Louis Cotton on the right. Hiding behind that big leaf is a Triple Purple Swirl datura.
