This poor little thing turned yellow in our "cold" snap. Look what I found when I put her in a big pot today!! My first bud. Do any of the big healthy looking ones have a bud? Nooooooo.
Poor Little Butterfly
So cute!!! A lot of mine turned yellow and some even white over winter. All are greening up now. Most will tell you to cut that bud off, but I always let them flower if I have never seen that particular flower before. If you leave it, please post a pic when it opens!
Lol! I have never had ANY flower so it stays. It will either fall off on its own or have its face in the dirt.
I didn't want to be the first to answer your thread. Thinking bud looks almost white, like it got frosted/cold? Might not hang on. I know how hard it is when you have never seen the first bloom, but it always seems to happen this way.
Good luck, want to see pic also if it stays.
Well it hung on through the transplanting process (and I have never been accused of being overly gentle) so I will keep my fingers crossed.
I think cold is harder on newly rooted cuttings than it is a larger plants. I'd try to keep that little guy warmer it the future. Bring him in if you think temps are gonna dip.
Butterfly is my favorite for color and smell!
Uhhh cold around here is anything below 60 degrees. We had a few nights that were in the 50's. (Please don't get out the tar!!)
Frogsrus: the distinctive label indicated you got this from twinlakeschef at our California RU this past fall. I'm surprised to see so little growth in all these months. I hope the bud opens for you. I also received a cutting from Arlene, and although mine is considerably larger, it has no bud.
mainfrog, all of these babies have been outside, exposed to whatever the weather throws at them. They are destined to be outside plants so the strong must survive. Interestingly, the pinks, other than frosty, have not shown as much growth as the others and yellowed in what passes for cold around here. Most of the others are much bigger and fuller.
PS yours are flourishing nicely.
