Anyone, please feel free to chime in here...thank you in advance for help with these two questions:
1. Will all the seeds from a single pod produce identical or nearly identical plants and flowers? In other words, If I have X number of a certain cross, will all those plants look alike? I want to give several seedlings to special people in my life (nurses that garden, that were so good to my husband when he was going through his transplant, and my awesome Mother), and I have an abundance of a certain cross. Thought those might be good ones to give.
2. I know it varies depending on the cultivars, but what is a rough average number of days from the time a seedling emerges until it begins setting buds?
Thanks again :)

Two Seedling Questions
Well, I read this in one of the forums and I can't remember which one..
1. Each seed is different, and will produce a different flower.
2. It could take anywhere from 4 months to 9 months or more for buds/blooms.
Now I just started with seed this year, so I am just repeating info. I have no experience here in this matter (yet) lol.
Think I've heard that, too, Gourd. But, I've many seedlings growing from the same plant. I hope to watch many of them grow and evaluate those I keep for possible variances.
A good, healthy brug would be my criteria for gifting. I actually have some going quite strongly. I plan to be sharing those with friends & family. They may get the "lucky" one and I'll never (nor they) will be the wiser ~ oh well...
Gretchen, I grew about 10 plants each cross from 4 different crosses last summer. In 3 of the crosses, they were very very similar. In the 4th they were very different. But in one that were so similar, there was 1 flower, that though was alot like the others, was just stunning while the others were plain Janes. Other than that I have no experience! LOL
Monika says to grow out the entire pod and maybe you will be lucky to get1 special one out of it!
It took me till October last year to get flowers, I think. I started my seeds too late. I started them probably in April but left them in 4 inch pots too long and did not plant them in the yard until into June. This year I am speeding it all up. I know Tracey got hers going in 3 months I think it was last year, from seed to bloom!
It seems fertilizing heavily helps to get them blooming early from what I read here.
I have been growing a lot of plants from seeds. I read in the Priessel? book that it takes 4 months to 2 years to get a bloom.
My plants are growing very fast but they are not Y'ing of yet. I have some that are like 6 feet tall and nothing so far.
The key with seeds is lots of patience, since you never know what your going to get. You should give them to your friends and make up some sort of catchy nice saying. I don't know something like these plants are so mysterious as we will never know the color until we see it, so i will wait with you to see the finale. A gift of long friendship! Etc......
I know that is corny but you get the point. I do things that holds me together with someone. And i always get good results.
good Luck!
Thank you all! I appreciate your info. It will be interesting to watch all these mature. I hope to get them all in the ground by the middle of April. I guess if I get something special I'll just have to dig it up this fall... Y'all have a wonderful, blessed day! Gretchen
I hope you do and take lots of pics! LOL
