heber springs, AR(Zone 7b)

hi everyone, i knew this day would come and it did. i finally picked my seed pods, and if anyone might like a few, i am ready to share. just send me an email first and let me know. all i ask is to send self addressed envelope. put a couple of stamps on it if u don't mind. lol. they r of of my yellow plant and my white one. they r both unnamed. probaly get sum crosses too. i can.t tell which seeds r which. btw, i have about twenty ready to go in the ground as soon as it gets warm. some r named, some r not.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I have too many of my own seeds, but what a nice offer. Sounds like with 20 brugs you are well on your way to be being a brug nut! If you have a camera, we would love to see your brug pictures. It is one of our favorite pastimes!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Some young, new brug growers are going to want your seeds.
So nice of you to offer.

If I send you an SASE for a friend, will you send her some? I was explaining to her about my new obsession and apparently she knows and has admired brugs for a long time but they are not readily available where she lives. I've already promised her cuttings from my cuttings if they survive and thrive but in the meantime...

hello everyone, my brugs are all potted and growing. my three i had last year have put on new leaves and one has a bloom forming. can't wait to see it. i have put all my new named ones in 20 gallon tubs with miracle grow potting soil. they r jumping. lol. can anyone tell me whether its better to grow them in the sun or shade. someone please tell me.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Werewolf: Someone will come along that knows more than I do, but some grow better in sun and some in shade, it depends on the variety/cultivar. I have 76 brugs in the ground at last count and probably 50 or so of those are in full sun. The rest are in morning sun only or dappled sun. Gretchen

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Hi Werewolf!!!! I'm a fellow Arky - however, I'm in zone 8a, but I am RIGHT on the 7B border (but I don't believe it - I think you have a better zone in Heber Springs, but, heck, I don't know). I'm a newbie too, in southeast Arky, Dermott, and, for me, so far, I'm doing morning sun, afternoon shade and I'm not certain that I won't go to full shade. I'm a newbie and I'm just not sure, yet, what the sun is going to do. We are a long way from each other, but I'm delighted to meet a fellow Arky!!!!!!! Good luck with your brugs and PLEASE keep me/us updated! Which brugs do you have and where did you locate them???? SherryLike

heber springs, AR(Zone 7b)

NOW COULD SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT FIRTILIZER TO USE. I MEAN SOMETHING GETTABLE HERE. I KNOW WE HAVE SOME SOME WHERE.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Hi Werewolf!! I don't have good luck with seeds, so i surely don't want to try on someone else's - but, how very nice of you to offer!!!
Are there lots of brugs in your area? I use Peter's 20-20-20, but pay a king's ransome at a local nursery. I will tell you this - I used liquid Ironite, without knowing that it was a fertilizer and had very little iron and none of the bad stuff that the, 25 lb package of Ironite has, and the liquid Ironite made an almost instant difference in my plants. I have never been so impressed, the numbers are 7-6-6 and I got mine at Lowe's. Good luck and keep us posted. What did you do in McGehee??? SherryLike

heber springs, AR(Zone 7b)

sherrylike, i was a automobile partsman at bumper to bumper. i worked under cliff purtle. i have since retired and am really enjoying it.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

werewolf, isn't Cliff Purtle the thin guy with the beard??? I heard him play with a group he grew up with a few weeks ago and, wow, they are impressive and he is quite a musician.........I'm having to water my brugs every day, and I can see that it's soon going to be twice a day. Is this common for zone 8a???? Apparently I'm doing the right thing because they are putting on buds like crazy.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

You will be lucky if you can get by with twice a day. I've watered up to 4 and 5 times in 5 gallon pots and two or three times a day is normal with the 20 gallon size for me. I'm trying mulch in my pots this year that I've not put Imps. and coleus in. Hoping that will help.

heber springs, AR(Zone 7b)

WOW, THANKS FOR THE TIP ON WATERING BRUGIE. I WAS WONDERING IF ONCE EVERY OTHER DAY WAS TOO MUCH. NOW IF I CAN JUST FIND ME SOME OR THAT 20/20/20 FERTILIZER. LOL

heber springs, AR(Zone 7b)

SHERRY, I THINK CLIFF PURTLE WORKS IN DUMAS NOW AT THE CHEV DEALERSHIP. HIS WIFE WAS KIDNAPPED AND KILLED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. REMEMBER??

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Shirley, when you say you are putting mulch in your pots, do you mean in the potting soil or as a top dressing?? Thanks for the watering info, I'm doing it twice a day now. Let me ask you this - I know that my tree brug is just fine, until sun hits her at 1:30pm. Should I water her early in the day, which is what I'm doing now, or should I wait until closer to the time the sun hits her???? I'm learning so much and now have my first seedling from my rockwool, it is precious and several more are begining to move, they have been very slow and it didn't help when the cat turned over their tray. Each day is a learning experience and each brug, thus far, is different...

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Gosh, werewolf, I do remember that horrible incident. And, no, Cliff Purtle wasn't the guy I was thinking of. I find it almost impossible to believe that out of 100,000 people on this list that I would run into someone from McGehee AR....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sherry, I'm using mulch as a top dressing/moisture retention aide. I don't water at any particular time. Just when they need it.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I figured that was how you were using your mulch, Shirley, and that's what I'm doing. I'm going to see what happens tomorrow if I water 10 or 15 minutes before the sun hits them. The sun isn't on them long, but they wilt and I don't like it; however, my 'old' plant (2 yrs), wilted once or twice, when it first put on leaves, but now appears to LOVE full sun. I watch it like a hawk, just in case it might change its mind, ya know??!! It is already 6 feet and it's been up, only a short time, but no buds, I don't think...thanks, Shirley!!!! SherryLike

Brugie my 3 coming along slowing gettin tal no y on 2 what then?? i put in big pots.. water some sun little shade.. i baby them talk to them.. have not got the alfalfa pellets yet.. super thrive not making them thrive for real. usings peters now.. well got 5 running after. so must get them ready bathed

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sounds like you are doing the right thing. Just keep it up and watch for worms and mites. Otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing. You don't need the alfalfa pellets to grow great brugs. I always thought super thrive did best when you used it at transplanting time. Never use it any other time here. Peter's is good fertilizer, so just hang in there. You will get blooms. Remember, as small as the ones were that I sent you, you may have to wait until next year. If you have Y's, you'll get blooms.

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

I was just reading thru some of the earlier posts about having to water frequently. (That has not been a problem for me the past few weeks since it's been raining a lot.) I noticed a "water ring" at Gardener's Supply that might be helpful for large brugs planted in the ground. Way too expensive to buy lot of them but it might be worth it to get one to help with an especially prized plant - at least it would look nicer than a bucket with a hole in the bottom.

Sounds great Hope! I know you have been trying to get some to come along, sounds like they are doing great. Im real happy for you.
Something I learned the hard way.. lol DO NOT take a seedling from a 2.5 inch pot straight to a 5 gallon pot (I wanted it to hurry. All it did was hurry and die lol). I have started seedlings in one contaier, when they have about 4 leaves, I move the to 2.5 inch contaiers, then they get moved to 6 inch containers, them to 1 gallon containers (sometimes), and then finally into the 5 gallon ones. Weew!! LOL Thank goodness it doesnt happen all in one day.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)
