Hi David,

So sorry to hear about this desease and all you are going through. I JUST started reading the post on stangelband and its just awful. I got cuttings from you which I am internally please with. Of all the cuttings I lost two, a third I lost but before it completely died on me I was able to take a leave set of and put it in the same pot to root, it rooted. I'm watching it to see what happens...now that I know about this stuff. I have one more of yours that looks like it has died but when I pulled it from the pot it actually had roots and two sprouts. Here's a photo.

I'm praying I don't have it...I haven't seen any black spots but to tell you the truth...I don't know what I am looking for.

Cheer up,

Daisy

David, I am getting my Coral Glow tested, I will let you know the results of the tests. I have an appointment on Wed. this week. Don't know how long it will take to get results back. I took my plants up to my greenhouse and I might have it on a Pink Beauty, I bought this one on ebay. Natural sunlight is much better than lights in the house. This is a learning experience for all of us.

David,

Monika just confirmed that I DO NOT have SB. So far all the cuttings I got from you with the exception of those mentioned do not have SB according to her. She saw my photos at this thread http://davesgarden.com/t/419515/

Good Luck!

David, I already emailed you privately. I feel so badly for you and your losses. I feel you are the kindest person, sharing with us as you did - please don't be upset. I know, nature is sometimes cruel. If there is anything any of us can do to ease your distress, email us or post here - we can take up a $$ collection if necessary, to replace what you've lost, if none of us have those you need replaced. I will gladly donate money, or do whatever I can. Just email me. It will be ok - there are so many wonderful people who grow and share brugmansias, that we can get you back on track in short order! We love you for your generosity and honesty.

I wonder how long it stays in the soil, do you think a hard freeze would kill it?

I think Monika said, that same spot of ground, will always have it. Not to plant brugs in same place next year.

David, thanks for posting this thread.

You might not see it now, but you have just educated more brug lovers in 1 day than all the months our Monica has been trying to teach us!

There's nothing like learning from mistakes, life is our best teacher. I'm sure you didn't do anything the rest of us didn't do at one time or another.

I bet we all remember this lesson, lol!

Hugs,
Vi

David, do not despair yet. I just wrote up a fact sheet on SB with Monika's help and she has informed me of a possible soil fix! I need to do a little research before I post it. But all may work out for your ground contamination if you have it there.

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

If it is indeed a form of fusarium, no a hard freeze will not kill it.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Carena, i have read it takes 5 years without anything growing in the soil that carries it for it to go away. lots of healthy plants are carriers, including nutgrass.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I always plant everything in the ground, and I have a very small yard,I am trying to work through this before planting season,I can not imagine not having Brugs, and the way I feel right now,I am ready to toss all my plants and cuttings and only do seedlings,I have been to K state this morning,I am trying to contact Purdue again, they are at lunch, the Plant diagnostic lab at MU does not have anyone on staff at this time, this is getting to be a real head banger!I want to nip this while it is in the cutting stage here.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

remember Root, with good technique, Monika says the pinks are left untouched! Hopefully the US labs will be able to help us. The German labs told Monika it is "a Fusarium spec. organism, which has not previously been found in Brugmansia before." Maybe we will learn about a fix!! Give it a little time!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I know, this is just killing me,the lady at the extension, had to go look it up(Brug) they had a great picture,it looked like one of Monikas plants, very nice and healthy, she has just moved here from Tenn.,I would have loved to shared a cutting with her,but I am not going to be able to do that for quite some time now.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Ah Root, I know how you love to share. But if we all don't when we have found a contagious disease in our plants for a while, maybe we can control the spread. You are a good guy!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I just got off the phone with Purdue, sounds like those girls want to get after this thing!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I bet you are a good salesman. So enthusiastic!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Sounds great Root!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Good job, maybe something good will come out of all your hard work.

Forgot to say......."just look at all the cute girls you met".
