I lost 3 boxes of cuttings and seedlings off the back of the truck this weekend going down the interstate. My brother thought they were heavy enough not to be tied down with the tailgate open, and they flew off and spread themselves all over I-20. Please hold all trades until I find out what I have left.
Moving Disaster
Oh, how sad! Hang in there when you get settled maybe a few of us can send you a care package.
and give your brother a good kick in the shin.
I'd make him take me to the nursery and spend some bucks!!!
SO sorry... Are you SURE he's related to you? (LOL)
Yeah, he's related, but his wife did bring me a bleeding heart bulb....smiling sheepishly as she apologized, and asked for a few of my calla lilies that are already sprouted. I have 12 that survived the move, but the leaves got a bit broke,, think I'll cut them back and see what happens.
lol, I see a big nursery trip!!

Yeah,I do too, but what can you do when she is just starting gardening for the first time? She is trying so hard, and has been watching the callas bloom, etc. for the last month. She took home a battered one to see if she can get it to perk up. I don't mind sharing....it's all a part of gardening and I had 3 green goddesses anyway.
you're a sweetie, you did the right thing!!!
And she brought me a "superstition" iris today...she tries...and I give her lots of encouragement. Her house looks like a nursery and she even started some red hot poker from seeds. She is signed up here at Daves Garden as well, I believe, another of my addictions passing on to my family. She's been dying to be able to garden with me for 4 years, and we moved up here to be close to my brother and her...everything happens for a reason, right?
Big ouch!!!
"everything happens for a reason"? Ever hear Jeanine Garofolo: late at night, those words echo in your head as "anything can happen with a razor"!
So right Pardacanda. DH was cool about it, and pulled out the Brecks and Springhill catalogs and told me to order a few things...and my sister in law said she would help pay for them.
Oh that is sooo cooooool!!! Such a sweet hubby and a great SIL! You are luckier than you know.
What a blow to your gardening heart. I'm so sorry. I'll keep an eye on the forum to see if I have anything to help you replace what was lost. I wonder if some gardener found the containers and salvaged any of the plants?
Are you sure you want to spend money at those 2 nurseries since they have such questionable reputations? I'm still debating on my purchases.
I didnt' use either of them. Went to Hallsen's, Lauer's, egardens, and participated in a few co-ops. I just didn't want to deal with them and have small, ugly plants come in.
First 4 small beds in the ground. Back is killing me, but I have loads more work to do. I have an endless supply of good sized rocks to border the beds with, as long as I don't mind trecking down a 45 degree valley covered with dried kudzu, and hauling it back up. Wow, what a workout, didn't know my buns had muscles in them until I did that 15 times the other day with 30 pounds in each hand. It's worht it, as the stones are mostly pink quarts, granite, and a little bit of good sized white quarts. Digging on 8' circle bed was going well yesterday, until I hit a vein of iron pyrite. Sure is pretty, but sure is a pain in the old arms. Broke a shovel fighting a kudzu plant underground. The hole ended up being 6' in diameter and over 2' deep, and looked like a dahlia gone really mad on steriods. The roots were the size of my thigh! I won out in the end, filled the bottom half in with clean clay, took away the sod to a bare spot in the yard, and amended other clay with a bit of humus, peat, and topsoil. Bed looks really good all planted with blooming spring bulbs and baby irises!
And in order to clean out the hosta bed in the front yard, am having to dig out a few hostas to get blackberries out of the clumps, so hey, I'll have some unnamed hostas to trade.
