i think they're so pretty! hehe
:)
I'm trying them from seed - Thompson & M have them - although I'm not optimistic that I'll be successful.
If I remember right S.nicolai has same kind of flowers than reginae. And they are not black. This flower in the picture is dead, and it is turning darker.
I might be wrong.
Looks like a giant bird of paradise, S.nicolai. They are fairly common here but I do not know how well they would do from seed. Look for a plant from a "better" nursery.
well i wasnt gonna buy the seeds from ebay
i dont like the idea of buying living things from ebay unless i know that they're a reputable seller
i just ran across the image and thought it was pretty and figured i'd ask about it here :)
so these really arent black?
hrm.. :/
thanks
Yes, that is what is more commonly known as giant bird of paradise. The leaves are green. The sheath that the flowers come out of is blackish/bluish and the flowers are translucent white. (I have one, and it is forming the sheaths now but the flowers haven't come out yet.) It's a huge plant, much bigger than the regular orange BOP, and the flowers stay close to the stalk, rather than extending out like they do with the regular orange BOP. The giant BOB flowers are much bigger than regular BOP flowers but are not nearly as showy, IMO. If my plant produces seeds, you have first dibs on them, if you are interested.
sure thing
lol
i'm always game for new seeds to try :D
just lmk if/when they're ready :)
i'm a sucker for black/near black flowers
thanks
Kim
Miss kitty these are giant bird of paradise..large plants of these can be bought at almost any Home Depot or Lowes stores in the spring for patio tropicals..seed takes years to get going well..buy a plant in a 5 gallon pot for $7.97 :-)
