what wicking a plant means? I'm new to all this and have seen this discussed about AV's. Since I have AV's it would be nice to know what it is. Thanks in advance.

Wanting to know
Here are some articles that talk about wicking and other helpful tips:

Wicking is really easy and wonderful. I use mason line from the hardware store as my wick. Once you get a potting mix that works and figure out the amount of wick to use (I use single ply for minis, and 3ply for standards), there's really no going back.... Did I say it's wonderful?
I'm going to have to try that with my little babies, well at least at school. I took in a couple for the classroom, plus a few other types of plants, to help make it look and feel like home. The problem being that the boys don't listen when it comes to not watering the AV's. I had to move them out of reach. This way may be a better way so the boys don't drown them.
You're welcome. I need to do this to more of mine as well. Just one more "thing to do." :)
