I'm having a GOOD day

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I am having a GREAT day! The sun is out, and I'm moving plants out of the gh. I have decided that winter is over. Finally I can sort of move around inside.
What is everyone else doing?

I thought your weather was warming up?
Pam, are Explorer roses hardy where you live? I want to send one to Monika and she needs extra hardy.

Warms up...then it snows...have never, ever seen so many grey days (swear we lived at the coast this year).

Will ask Dad about the Explorer......he knows a lot more about the roses than I do.

Thanks Pam, I appreciate it. Now to find out what kind of paperwork I need to send it off.

Dad says they are very hardy. He was just looking at Lois Hole's book today: RED...Captain Samuel Holland hardy to zone 3, Alexander Mackenzie hardy to zone 1, Champlain hardy to zone 1, Charles Albanel hardy to zone 1, David Thompson hardy to zone ? (Dad says he's grown it and they sell it here),
George Vancouver hardy to zone 3, Henry Kelsey hardy to zone 2, Old Nicolas (not stated but Dad thinks zone 3), William Booth (hardiness zone not given). WHITE : Henry Hudson hardy to zone 1. YELLOW : J.P. Connell hardy to zone 3....light Tea fragrance.

Parkland Series is a favorite of Dad's....Winnipeg Parks does very well for him. Morden Sunrise is one that has caught my eye (Sunny double, yellow with orange and pink overtones) grows 60 to 70 cm high and 60 to 70 cm wide. Morden Blush is another one that Dad likes to grow. Morden Fireglow (orange/scarlet)....rare shade. Morden Ruby ... masses of large long lasting flowers hardy to zone 2...double dark ruby red.

Dad figures both would do well for Monika but he likes the Morden for it's compactness, long blooming period and hardiness.

He used to grow and overwinter a lot of Tea's .... tested his rose bed soil obsessively...but is now enjoying the hardiness and floriferousness of the Morden Series.

Thanks for all the info Pam, there are a few of us wanting to send so the more varieties the better.
Who would you suggest we order from? I need someone that will ship out of country. OK ~ I'm off to do my homework.
