update to "hooked on brugs"

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Hi, haven't posted in ages, but wanted to show you how my brug babies are doing. These were the stick babies sent to me by WantabeGardener on November 1, 2003. On the left is Dr. Seuss, on the right - Jean Pasco and in the middle..sigh..is Insignis Pink. POOR Insignis..I have no clue why I have not seen a single shoot. It doesn't appear to be dead though, and there are roots in that pot. Any ideas what I should do - is it a goner?

The others look great though don't they? I just transplanted them into these pots today. These are 9" pots - they just outgrew their 4".

I went to the Connecticut Flower Show yesterday and met Roger Swain from Victory Garden fame. He gave a great talk - he's a real funny guy. I will post a pic of us in a minute.

Here is a pic of me and Roger Swain (I'm on the right). He used to star on The Victory Garden and now is on a show called People, Places and Plants that airs every weekend. I met him yesterday at the Connecticut Flower and Garden Show.

Nice to meet you. Say, Roger looks like he is losing some weight. LOL!! Wish I could. Your two outside brugs look great. It is strange that you have nothing on the Insignis yet. Maybe there is still time. Keep up the good work.

Enjoyed the pics. Your plants are sure looking good. I. Pink is still green? Maybe it's a "late" grower?

They look great to me. Do you have roots on your pink? Maybe it is waiting for spring.

Hi, Kell -

Well, curiosity got the better of me since you asked and I just turned Pink out of the pot to take a look. It does have roots - but clearly not nearly as many as the other have. sigh. I don't know...should I just keep givin her water and wait or should I give up?

Heheheh never give up....I would cut the top off...maybe a 1/2 inch...plant that even..I read in this form...about someone that got a tree from a cutting 1/2 long..hehehe...they look great you are doing a great..job...the pic---of Roger Swain...and you guys are great...thanks for showing us ...just how you are doing...be proud..for sure...they look great...even leaf--less...you might be surprised...

Smiles....

Diana....Ps. ...thank Burgie...she sent them to me before they were trees...she is a great share-er....smiles to her too...

I have had a few to of those slow pokes. I would put it back into a smaller pot and start fertilizing them heavily. If it does not take off in another month or so (spring), dump it! It maybe diseased.

If you cut a piece off for rooting It must have at least 1 node to sprout.. I see no reason to chop on this one JMO....I would do as Kell suggested. I too, have no time or space for things that refuse to grow =)
Cuttings are easy to come by .

Speaking of Roger Swain, what happened to the original Victory Garden show? I don't care for it at all now. In fact, even the HGTV channel doesn't really have any good garden shows anymore. I used to faithfully watch Victory Garden on our local KLRN channel and the others on HGTV. I really miss them as they were.

Roger Swain left Victory Garden a year or so ago..I agree the new show is just not the same. I catch Roger ever Sunday on our Local channel 20 (in CT) at 11:30am called People, Places and Plants. (I also subscribe to this GREAT magazine by the same name). Here is the website - you can probably look up when it airs in your area:
