Questions for folks that have been here longer than me.LOL

Palmyra, IL(Zone 5b)

How do I search for seeds or plants on traders lists? Without having to go through everyone's lists one at a time? Still trying to learn how to get around. Thanks, Jody

Hmm...not a clue. You might want to post this in the 'Dave's Garden' forum so that Dave or Terry will see it. I think it's a great idea if feasable.

the only way i know of is go to the forum under search and try it that way. or like everyone else post a wanted on that forum and see what replies you get.

There are several ways to find what you're looking for.

1. Searching the tradelists
Go to this list: http://davesgarden.com/tl/ and type in the common or botanical name of the plant you're seeking. (Hint: if you don't get good results with your search, go to the Plants Database to make sure you're spelling it correctly, and that you know all its possible common names. For example, if I want to look for Seashell Cosmos, I can search for "Seashell Cosmos", "Cosmos", or "Cosmos bipinnatus" and I'll get different results with each search:

Seashell Cosmos: http://davesgarden.com/search/tradelists.php?search_text=seashell+cosmos&Search.x=0&Search.y=0
Cosmos: http://davesgarden.com/search/tradelists.php?search_text=cosmos&Search.x=0&Search.y=0
Cosmos bipinnatus: http://davesgarden.com/search/tradelists.php?search_text=cosmos+bipinnatus&Search.x=0&Search.y=0

Searching for Marigold: http://davesgarden.com/search/tradelists.php?search_text=Marigold&Search.x=0&Search.y=0
gets very different results than searching for Tagetes patula: http://davesgarden.com/search/tradelists.php?search_text=tagetes+patula&Search.x=0&Search.y=0

2. Searching the trading forums
If you don't find anyone with the plant you're seeking, don't give up. Try searching the seed (or plant) trading forum. Type the name (common or botanical) into the "search forums" box in the right-hand column. Then limit your search to the seed or plant trading forum.

For example, searching for Cosmos:
http://davesgarden.com/search/index.php?search_text=cosmos
gives 518 results - ugh! But limiting it to the seed trading forum: http://davesgarden.com/search/index.php?forum=&search_text=cosmos&limit=trading&limit_poster=&Search=Search narrows down the results significantly.

3. Posting your "wants"
If your searches don't help you find what you're seeking, create a "wanted: [fill in the blank] post in the appropriate forum (seeds, if that's what you're after, or plant trading forum, if you're seeking a rooted cutting or division)

I hope that helps, but if you need more assistance, please post back here or email us, and tell us what you're searching for. (Your feedback will help us improve the site's functionality as well as helping you find what you're seeking ;o)

The "Search Forums" box wasn't working for me, so I asked this question too, and Dave said: In the box on the right, the one labeled "DG Network" at the top, click on the "Seed/Plant Trading" which will take you to a page which will search everyone's trade lists.

hope this helps!

Believe it or not, many times you can Google the information. There have been several times that I have typed in the name of something I'm looking for and it provides the link to the DG page.
