This is on my Coral Glow. Last week I dusted my plants with seven dust because of aphids, this morning I am washing them all off and I found this on my coral glow. It's just starting, it's black spots.
I think this is Stengelbrand
The part of this cutting that is growing came from the root. There is no growth on the cutting itself. Maybe that's why it's coming out on this plant like it is.
((hugs)) I'm sorry!!! Do let me know if you need any replacement plants. Living so close- cutting would make it in two days I'm sure.
I think you are right Cathy, I wish I could help you with a replacement, this is one I don't have.

I don't know David, the cutting you sent me was perfect, no cork, nothing. This cutting did root, but it's sending up from the root and not from this cutting. That's why I'm thinking that this SB is showing up. The cutting itself is not growing, seems to be dieing off. Did you keep any coral glow cuttings? You sent me 2 cuttings and they both have it. Cathy
I have had 3 Coral Glow plants, from 3 different places. It is one of the hardest ones for me to keep. Spidermites just loved it, then suddenly it just up and dies. Stems look ok, nice and green?

Try this, this morning when I was cleaning the seven dust off my plants to check for SB I really noticed the black spots, when my husband came home I went to show him the plant and it was hardly noticible, so I ran some water over this cutting and there it was, we could see it plain as day. But when the water dryed off the plant you could hardly see it.
I'm just as new at this as a lot of you are.......BUT.....IMHO
This does not look like SB.
OK! The beatings may commence now ! *ducking* *dodging*
=)
If by chance it is the diease, do any of you feel it might be in the soil and not the cutting? what I mean is In the soil before you planted the cutting .we do not really know were the soil comes from we plantour cuttings and plants in or what it has been around that we buy prepackaged, this makes me really contious about sterilizing my dirt now. the only reason I am saying this is because I went out today to transplant some more seedlings and i noticed in my bag of potting soil a layer of what, looked like white mold on the top of the soil all the way across. this scares the heck out of me. what could this be? contaminated potting soil?

Scoot, you are a hoot! Bend over and I will start them! LOL
I use promix, have been for several years and no problems with it. I don't think it's the soil. Was your soil wet?
David, you sent me a cutting of Coral glow early in the season, and I just checked it out really close, and it is absolutely perfect, no blemishes at all.
Hi Cathy, got in late. Any success with your plant disease?
It's on it's way to Pennstate to be tested. They didn't have any idea what was wrong with it there. I'll let you know when I get the results.
This plant was positive for Fusarium Sp. They told me to burn the plant and to use Baking Soda 1 TBS. to 1 quart of water to use as a fungicide. They told me to use this for 2 weeks and to keep an eye on my other brugs for Fusarium. They also told me that aphids and other bugs will spread this fungus. I was told that there were no effective chemical control for Fusarium.
cbrandenburg, how did they tell you to use the baking soda? As a foliage spray or on the soil? I am so sorry it tested positive and hope that it has not spread to others in your collection. Thank you for this information.
Water the soil in the pot. I was surprised about the baking soda, never heard that was a fungicide before. They said it was good to use on vegi plants also, won't hurt you. The price is right with the baking soda, everyone can afford it.
Monika told me that it could not be spread through bugs?
Monika told me that to, I guess I'll have to wait and see. I sure hope she's right.
Monika said SB is not transmitted by bugs, not Fusarium.
root, SB and fusarium are the same thing
SB,is an unidentified form of Fusarium, found in Brugs.
Other types of Fusarium are common and found in the soil, plants that are susceptible are tomatoes, and a long list of others.
Great point, Root. We all must stay focused that there are different strains of these diseases & not to get caught up in catagorizing everything that's harming our beautiful brugs as the universal term...SB... Now's the time for learning & collecting all data, experiences & knowledge to keep up the "good fight". As it is, Monika has given us valuable insight into SB & now Penn State is on board with knowledge about fusarium sp. Many thanks to cbrandenburg & others who have taken the opportunity to have their plants tested & giving us more information in our quest for maintaining the health of our lovely brugs.
I bought something yesterday that I hope will help my plants fight off infection from SB and other fungal invaders.
http://www.albrightseed.com/trichoderma.htm
It is applied as a soil drench.
Mary,I hope this works for you, keep us posted, when you get it,I would like a list of ingredients.
Hey Root, did they give you a time frame to hear on yours??
I so hope they're ok!
Good find, Mary
Let us know what you think about it.
