west allis, WI(Zone 4b)

Does anyone have an upright to trade or for postage? They look neat, and I'd thought I would ask here at DG before ordering from a catalogue. Thank you...b

I just picked up a package from Lowes, 2 for $6 I think. I thought it was a bit much but I really wanted them and I didnt pay s+h.

Janet, I don't want to dull your enthusiasm but.....last year I bought two packs of those, came home and potted them up and waited. When they finally did come up, they were the regular ears. When the first one got a couple of leaves and I was sure, I took it up got my money back and rebought my own plant for like $3 so they wouldn't toss it. LOL Then the same thing with the second, but I told them I would pay less for it because it was smaller. Of course they sold it back. This year they are not even offering the upright. I was telling the main plant guy about it earlier this week and he said he has to depend on locals to tell him about stuff like that because this zone gardening is new to him??? Anyway, I hope you have the right ones! :)

Well at least im warned and dont have to find out like you did, thatwould just tick me off.
Ok so lets hold off on these until Im sure ofwhat I got so Ill keep the packaging and the reciept and keep my fingers crossed.
Where did you buy yours at Chele? I got mine at lowes but it could still be the same company.

I got mine at Lowe's. I just looked through my bulb pkgs to see if I kept that one but I don't have it. I am thinking the supplier was Jackson and Perkins. I know I sure was miffed after I wasted the time to grow them out.

Here, I found this for you. http://davesgarden.com/t/380532/ Sorry to take over your thread Babs. I guess this also serves as a warning for others with their hearts set on the upright. :(

Heres a question Chele, are the bulbs the same shape? I always see round for the drooping ones but these were oval.

Sorry Bads, if this grows true then you can have the second one but Id ask bleek.

Unfortunately there seems to be no real rule with the tubers. I've had the plain green ones put out long skinny tubers, short fat tubers, big round tubers, any variable. When I did get a mac from someone, it was a bigger, older one so there really is no telling how long it took to get to the shape or size it was.

I have some upright EE that I'll trade with you. But I would like to have something other than postage, how about hosta, do you have any of those. I notice you live in Wisc., you'll have to raise these in pots and bring them inside in the winter, they'll freeze.

egardens.com is offering the upright elephant ears for $4. They are here in Lawrenceville. I ordered a few plants, will let you know what they look like.
