Hey gang. This baby is starting to come out of being semi dormant. lol Its going wild. Which one is it. I have 4 markers in the pot . When fall came I was digging and potting I was out of pots so lots of my ears went in one pot. I know one that came up. So that one is ruled out. So which one do you think it is?
Xanthosoma sagittifolium
Xanthosoma jeoquinii lineatum
Xanthosoma lindenii ( I am sure its not this one)
PS the spell check sure worked on this one.
EE experts help!
Xanthosoma jeoquinii lineatum is my guess, what a beauty!
Lime Zinger
Doc thats what I thought and Susie thought too. I wanted to put it in the database so wanted to make sure. I hope others will come along and confirm this too!
Maybe if you send me one of those babys, can grow it for a year and better tell you ,LOL!!!Just kidding,it sure is going nuts!
WOW That is exploding out!
At that rate you should have fun getting it out the door come May!
My Xanthosoma jeoquinii lineatum looks more like this http://www.agristarts.com/xan_jeoquiniilineatum.htm
My lime zinger was lighter in color, but differences in locations make some things look different.
I know it's not lime zinger. Brugmansia back in the summer mine looked like that too which ever one it was. lol But the best I recall it took it awhile to get the crackly look. Brugmansia what one do you think it is?
(justmeLisa pushes her friend Rootdoc outta the way in the baby ee line..she is thinking.."hmm, root doesn't need anymore tropical plants to dig up in the fall..that OLD back of his must be giving him trouble.....yeah.....thats it..all that digging...heh heh)
Dang it John, quit putting up those great sites with plants I don't have and WANT!!!
Lisa,I just got done working in the basement,I have to prune my banana canna back,it is past the lights and wrapping it self in the floor joists,Your right!!
Well maybe one more.....
mystic, I'm no expert just started to get into them this past year but it sure has a zinger look to it.

When we hit the 40's this winter my
Xanthosoma jeoquinii lineatum went to sleep and is just now wakeing up and still has the (crackly look) ; ) and I was just going to say deformed!

Stop PLEASE!!!!!
Dang it, now that is a must have!!!
Ouch!!Just smashed my nose on the Monitor!!
Where is my drool towel? What the Heck is that?????
I'm not sure about it being lineatum either, unless it just hasn't gotten that cracked look yet. I remember thinking mine looked like something was wrong with it until I looked up the picture. LOL
Oh, and I live the closest and would be happy to come pick up my baby! HA! ;)
Your Killin me!!!!
death by tropics....
po' mystic, boy, did we hijack your thread.....
LOL! Mystic is afraid to surface after showing a pot with Babies in it!!
John:
That's a beauty!
The Aroid Show and Sale at Fairchild Tropical
garden is September 18 and 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. I hope I can make the sale but there's always the chance that I'll have school that weekend. Last year I missed the Ramble because of school. :( I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that I won't have school the weekends of the Spring Plant Sale and the Members' Day Plant Sale.
I've just gotten into aroids this year. I bought Black Magic, Black Stemmed, and Metallica. The plants are small and in pots but I'm sure they'll take off once I've planted them and even more when the rainy season starts.
My friend Kathi and I are going to a plant sale on March 5. She received a flyer in the mail that reads in part: Searles Brothers Nursery, Inc. & The Rainforest Collection presents The 6th Annual Spring Weekend Plant Sale featuring:
Over 350 species of Palms and Cycads
Heliconias
Cordylines
Bromeliads
Landscaping Plants
Unusual and one of a kind plants
Although I have a ton on plants to put into the ground and I really don't need more plants at this point, I just cannot resist a plant sale. I hope I'll find some EEs and other things that are on my Wish List.
Giggling show ya'll a ee and you go wild. (thinking I better find a safe hiding place for my babies) lol Wonder if it's safe to show anymore or I might have a raid on my hands. Lisa hijack all ya want too. I love all the pictures.
LOL,Mystic!!Your like me,threads that go astray are sometimes the best!
I agree we have not heard from Seed, watch your backyard, she might be sneaking up!And she better include me in the haul!
I'm here.....lurking.....waiting for Peggy to turn her back. :)
You're right Mystic, I know that I do. And now that I know my favorite plant nursery will order any EEs that I want, I'll become even wilder! LOL
John:
My friend just told me that we'll have to go to the sale next year because she won't be able to make it. Anyway, all is not lost because that will just give me more money to spend at the Native Day Plant Sale, Spring Plant Sale, Going Bananas Nursery, Paradise Groves Nursery...and the list goes on and on. LOL
Speaking of hijacking a thread... :)
Chele:
Have you seen what has become of the coleus cuttings you sent me last year? http://davesgarden.com/t/418237/ They are gorgeous and ready to be planted.
Wow! You have done great with them. I may have to beg for some cuttings back in a couple of months. LOL
Don't worry Chele I got you covered on the Coleus.
Mine are 16" high now and flowering.
I have 12 different ones w/ 14 more coming from my Balconeer's group.
BTW: That Duckfoot you gave me is now a Goosefoot.
It's huge!
Ric
LOL It is nice to hear that my children have done so well in their new homes. :) It is always nice to share and pass along offspring that I have gotten from others.
Chele I forgot to warn you there will be 2 Great Danes in the yard so take care.lol Now I know what yards to raid for coleus. Brugie and Brugmania I agree it has a zinger look but I know its not lime zinger here it is. I just had the one of it and had a terrible time keeping it alive. It's just now put up a leaf.
You keep showin pics like that, and I am getting some big milkbones to toss while I run!!
Chele Polly woke from her winter nap,;0)
In hopes that you very informed gardeners are still watching this thread....several questions. I cut my coleus back fairly drastically and they are barely sending out any new growth...think they will when it warms up here in Florida? It's in the high 60's low 70's and 50's at night. Second question...I am going to plant several Black Magics, a Black Marble and a Lime Zinger in an area where a Macho fern has taken over. I trimmed back the Macho but it has left a very thick mat of roots and runners. Shouls I remove ALL of that so it doesn't compete with the Aroids for nutrition and water? How often do you all feed your EE's when in the ground and with what? That's enough questions for now...glad you all are here!
delecie....what's your favorite nursery? I visit Jupiter Florida and may make a day trip south to visit some nurseries so any suggestions welcomed!
Dale
DaleP
We plant our grounded Colocasia in one of the thickest
mats of ivy you will ever see and they did just fine in the competition.
Our black and bog EE's we put in giant mixing bowls full of water and in the ponds. In my experience you can't over-water a Black Magic, Violet Stem, etc. as long at the temps are in at least the 70's.
In your sandy soil, I assume, I would plant them in composted manure and jump back.
Watering is easy.
If they droop water.
If they are weeping don't.
Ric
LOL Ric...jump back...when you say you planted them in large bowls of water.....sunken in the earth? And thanks so much for telling me not to dig up all the Macho remnants and new runners....that is aLOT of work!
John:
LOL Hopefully I won't have school that weekend and won't have to cut class. I'll find out for sure when I register for the Fall term. Raiding the place sounds like fun, as if I really have room for more plants. :)
Dale:
My favorite nursery is:
Paradise Groves, Inc.
18800 SW 137th Ave.
786-242-0400
I love going there because the owner, Mrs. Karin Ritter is such as nice person with a wonderful selection of palms, plants, trees, etc. Something is always in bloom so there is always wonderful color. Any stress that I may have leaves me once I enter the nursery.
If you decide to travel south and you want to visit other nurseries, I also like:
Florida Colors Nursery
23740 SW 147th Ave.
Homestead
1-800-527-8308
http://www.floridacolors.com
Luc and Carol are the owners and they are super nice and generous. Their specialty is plumerias and I usually go once a year to buy a plumeria or plumerias for my birthday.
Plant Creations Nursery
28301 SW 172nd Ave.
Homestead
305-248-8147
http://www.plantcreations.com
This nursery specializes in native Florida plants. I usually buy plants from this nursery when there are Native Plant Day Sales around town and the nursery participates as a vendor. I visited the nursery once and was assisted by a wonderful gentleman, Ken, who drove me around the nursery, answered all of my questions, and helped me to make some excellent plant choices.
Richard Lyons Nursery
20200 SW 134th Ave.
305-251-6293
http://www.rarefloweringtrees.com/
Mr. Lyons also has a great selection of everything and sometimes there are scheduled butterfly walks and other activities at the nursery.
Last but not least, there's Fairchild Tropical Garden. Although not a nursery, it is a beautiful garden and there are always plant sales. http://www.ftg.org/publicprograms/n_events.html
Me napping?? Surely you jest??! See, the kids and hubby helped me strip wallpaper. First it was the living room and hall. I spent a LONG time patching holes, but hey, I got out of stripping. LOL Got the LR, DR and kitchen painted. THEN they stripped the wallpaper in the bathroom. So, I spent another week or so fixing the holes there. LOL I finally got to the skim coat yesterday and am going in to paint today. Okay, honestly I have been having a nap nearly every afternoon, I'm busted. :) I figure I have about three more weeks to work before I throw in the towel. I'll be 35 weeks on Monday. Last baby was born at 38 weeks. I am hoping for a repeat. I figure it is fair pay off for the first four that were born at 42 weeks! LOL I figure Peggy will come see me about that time and when she is on the way here, I am going to jump in my Sub and run to her house. hehehehe She'll never know what happened. ;)
