I'm ready for warm weather and tons of vines and a gazillion blooms!

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

LOL Dee, well you were probably wondering where I was gonna put all MY new ones this year huh? I cannot wait! Some in pots, some in ground and oh, they will be beautiful! Spring will be here before long!

Brinda: Shibouri is a beautiful pink and white I guess you would call it striped looking, very pretty. Sunrise mix, help Dee? I have sunrise serenade from Seed Savers Exchange and it is pretty dark pink, nearly red, double petaled and has white throat, kinda looks frilly or feathered you might say. Hope this helps some.

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Hi tiG, Dee has the sunrise mix, but I am sure she will read this thread again :)

I am growing the sunrise serenade, that I described above. And if you were wanting seeds of those, please let me know, have plenty to spare now!!

Where do you people find such beautiful MG's?? I am also envious of you people who live where its warm. I still have 8" of snow on the ground and don't plan on starting seeds in the greenhouse until around the lst of April.
Laurrie, would you have extra of the the variety called Sunrise Mix?

Thanks, Maxine

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

my bad, Laurrie, but yes, if you have enough, they sound divine!!

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Hi all, yes that photo is of the Sunrise Serenade!! Beautiful aren't they? I have some to spare, if you want those drop me an email ok?
Also, sometimes your soil can have an effect on the color outcome of bloom, so some could be lighter than photo just so you all know that!! I got mine late DEc. or early Jan. from SSE.
Will await your emails OK
Thanks all
Laurrie

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi girls sorry I have been busy and not on line much today. tiG if you will send me your addy I will get you some seeds of the Sunrise Mix.
The Choclate M G I got from Onalee. So far every single seed I planted is up and like Larrie I am wondering what I'm going to do with them all. Some will have to go in pots and some in the ground cause I don't have enough pots. I bought some arches at Big lots today to start some on but I still need alot more....
I know they will all be very pretty this year and I am anxious to have them all start blooming and we can share photos and seeds.....

This is my first year for hybrid MGs. I ordered a few Rose Silk from Ebay. My question how far apart do they need to be from the other colors?

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

they say 100 feet to be really safe, but if you are growing an Ip. nil next to an Ip. purpurea you would be safe, just keep the species that are the same far far away so you don't get crossing if you want to keep lines pure

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

chocolate silk is available at parks if you dont trust ebay.
along with some other pretty ones.

and i think sunrise is from burpee. i think or is it thompson and morgan. one of the two.

not everyone likes ebay so just wanted to put a few places that sell some pretty nice mgs.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

I am planting mine out already temps are in the upper 60's and 70's so it's time to get them out. I have some close together and some not so close.

I have some of the Japanese MG's that I am giving to Pam since she has more room. I have decided to let her do those and if they seed they should be true....

It should be really pretty around her this summer. Now if I can only make room for one more.....
Dee

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Dee, oh Pam will do well by you and your seeds!! hehehe aren't you the lucky one, to have someone as special as her!!! I am glad to hear you can plant things now, wish we could out in the ground, but it will be really soon!!!
I wish you all the best with all you grow this year.

bluegrass425, there are alot of nice MG's on ebay, I have purchased several and have for a few years, only once do I remember the seeds I purchased weren't the ones I thought they should have been, but that is just my experience, also just type in rare or Japanese Morning Glory in your search bar, and a few other places will come up that also sell them.
Good luck with your Rose silks and let us all know what you think of them.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes Laurrie my Pam is such a sweetie. I am sure she will do well with the Japanese MG's, hopefully we will all have alot more seeds next year....

Most of the really hard to find MG's in my collection come from E-bay. A few of the Japanese ones I have came from a trade with a really special lady here on Daves.....

I buy lots of seeds on e-bay and so far have had really good luck...I would not hesitate to buy again from these folks listed:

Cynda Rhodes, ebay name is member98007 in Chincoteague Island Va, is a really good e-bay seller of MG's and I have many of her seeds. She also sends you a bonus pack when you buy from her, my last bonus pack was Rose Red MG ...it is soo pretty, couldn't believe she sent it for free......I also bought from aceseeds and ambrotianics with really good luck so far.

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh me too, those are some wonderful sellers on ebay!! I am also trading with a lady in China, we traded once for some beautiful MG seeds, and now working on the second trade. So much fun, remind me or tell Pam to remind me come fall and if I am fortunate enough to get seeds from these ones I am growing I can send you some!!! from China :)

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

WoW Breezy thats great, wonder why Pam hasn't been on this thread yet.....Hum I gotta fix that....
We won't forget....wow China....

Laurrie,

When do you start your seed inside or do you plant them all outside when it warms? I figure if I do what you do, but about two weeks behind you, I should be pretty safe. LOL!

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

LOL Howdy, well here If i am to start indoors, now is the time, I started some earlier this year just because of the sponge method and I had to try it!! But now, usually very end of Feb. or beginning of March for the indoors starting, we cannot plant out till mid to late April here.

So next week or perhaps the week after sounds about right for you!! indoors that is. LOL.

I was outside today preparing spots for things, drug out the pots that were stashed in garage, shed, basement, everywhere, getting them put where they belong, got the soil in already and will be adding seeds next month or seedlings - depends on what I put in them this year. A friend of mine has gotten some trailing old fashioned petunias, and I cannot wait to try them in window box or something hanging in tree this year, they look and sound so pretty!!

How's the greenhouse coming along, how soon till you can move things out, around end of April or so? I am looking over plan after plan on greenhouses, and really wanted one up before spring, but our weather has been awful lately, lots of wind and now thunderstorms and showers, and they say snow sunday! it won't stick though!! So maybe by fall for the greenhouse! Will let ya know.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks for the info. I'm in the greenhouse, but I don't want to start vines too soon and have them running all over the place. It is so nice to be out there though and have some of the brugs out of the windows in the house. Wouldn't it be great if it would just turn warm and stay that way? I'm sure ready.

smithton, MO(Zone 5a)

here are mine..wont be long and they will running all over the place...next year ill know better as to when to start them.....btw..anyone wanna tell me how to or when to collect the seeds from these beauties?...i have lots of others started and actually ordered more(different ones)too bad noone is here close to me to come get some of these..i have way too many...lol.....cindy

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Collecting seeds is the easy part. After they bloom there should be a seed pod where the bloom was. It will contain about 3 small black seeds. You just pull them off and put them in a container.

Sometimes I pick mine a little early, just right before the husk is brown, when it is a little wilted and just begining to turn yellowish. The seeds picked then are good, they have all germinated well for me...
If you wait to long the seeds will be on the ground and the pickings not so easy then.

hi there.....just where did you purchase the Orange Noahs, Dee? Elaine

Greenville, SC

Some of the Walmarts are carrying Burpee's Select seeds for $1.34 a packet. Ours had Cameo Elegance and the Sunrise mix. They also had the Blue Star for 97 cents in with the Walmart seeds.
