I'm still waiting for someone to do a co-op of them......

still waiting.......

There are two problems keeping this one expensive..
1: It loses it's variegation in TC
2: It can be slow to pup and when it does only a few of the pups have the variegation ,some will be green ,some all white etc..
100 dollars is the going rate here that has come down from the 250 they where asking several years ago : ( The growers around here keep them in pots for some reason ? One day I will cough up the money for one!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

John you don't have one? Really? I thought for sure you'd have this. Your jungle seems to have a little bit of everything. LOL.... Of course you know I love it all. Even if I do suffer from zone envy.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Jesh, John I thought you'd have one too......

What does It loses it's variegation in TC mean?
Problably me just having a blond moment but I can't figure it out

and I thought they were being veg.prop. in tubes.......

CC, When they TC them (veg.prop. in tubes) they come out green (or not at all)from what I understand..
And hey U2 There is lots of stuff I do not have!!! Like an AE AE nanna!!! lol

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Well I think you should get one....

NOW!!!!!
LOL

moretz, One with good variegation will keep it and when she blooms at least one of her pups will look just like her : ) There is a grower on the east coast of South FL that have them for about 80.00 .. I will try to locate them as I need to take the plunge this year!!!
I was just trying to help with the reason they are so dang expensive.. I've been waiting for 7 years now and I do not think it's gonna get any better !lol

I like rootdoctors plan. More in my price range too. I have a friend who lives in Calif. and she bought one for a little less that $100 if I remember right. It didn't live. That would make me a bit sick.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Maybe that is what I need to do,get an Ebay account and paint up a bunch of pups, sell them as Ae Aes,and skip town!
Think people would notice the flaking paint?

LOL, Reminds me of the stories of the Gypsy barn painters my Grandparents would talk about!
Well if I take the plunge this year I will do my best to grow it and I always share : )

I got mine from a swap here,It did have a few pups, but they got scooped up in my round up thread,I may get some more in spring, and I will keep you in mind.
To me,Ornata pups well, but I lose my main trunk in the winter,I am not sure this is normal?but I do stress them a lot bringing them in and out, summer to winter.

Mount Hermon, LA(Zone 8b)

Oh, I had BIG plans to make a bazillion dollars on eBay! I shelled out $100 plus shipping for an Ae Ae, potted it up, babied it, and it dropped dead. I still think it was suicide. That's my story and I'm sticking to it :))
