I've nearly always used MG on all my plants, but in reading many of the posts, some of you say that is not the best for brugs. Any suggestions on which ones keep them green and blooming the best?
What is best fertilizer to use?
I don't know if it is the best, but I use Rose systemic fertilizer on mine. So far so good. You just have to be real careful on the small rooted cuttings or you will burn them.
Hiya Minigrannie,
I use the Rose systemic on all of mine and I alternate that with a dose of epson salt & cow manure mixture...about half and half watered in well in the wee morning hours before it heats up. This mixture usually puts huge blooms on my plants in about 7-10 days. Don't know if it works for everyone but it sure works for me.:>) I am just south of you close to Galveston so it might work well for you too.
Blessings ,

I have seen this question before and it seems everyone used everything! Several times I have seen people say the MG is not as good as Peter's because Peter's has some micro-nutrients that MG doesn't have.
I had wondered about using the Rose systemic fertilizer, meaning that it has bug insecticide in it that goes into the whole plant. It worked great on my roses so I will now use it on my brugs.
But I always top dress everything with Black Kow and bone meal in the spring and shrubs with a little epsom salts. My lilac gets lime because it is very acidic here.
Thanks everyone. Love the pictures, MsCritterKeeper. I've also heard that Peter's Excel is great, but can't find it anywhere.
Peter's Excel can be ordered on line, but I would advise against it as the shipping cost is almost as much as the fertilizer. Someone suggested one time that you contact your local nurseries and see if they can get it for you and I'm sure if they order other supplies from a distributer that has the Excel, it wouldn't cost as much as paying shipping yourself. I'm very lucky to have a friend who lives 30 minutes from a distributor and she will be getting my next couple of bags with no shipping costs added. Whew!! That was such a relief. I like the Excel so well because it disolves better than Peters regular.
Thanks, Shirley. Guess I'll check around. Wonder why the nurseries don't carry it in stock?
because most nurseries couldn't sell it at a profit.
Peters Excel 15-5-15 costs $18-$22 for a 25lb bag.
If a nursery have it for sale for $40 or $50 no one would touch it.
I would say (armed with this pricing info) that you should ask a nursery to order it for you, and barter about price ahead of time.

I don't know enough to be of much help, but the pics are kinda cheery anyway.:>)
