BLANCO PARA POZOLE

Franklin, NC(Zone 6b)

This corn was listed with Baker Creek last year and by the time I saw it and ordered it, he was out and isn't offerring it this year. Does anybody out there have any seed for it? I've posted this in the heirloom section as well.

Your best bet would be seedsavers. It is not listed in thier on-line catalog but possibly available through thier members.

I checked a few of my back SSE Yearbooks and see no corn by that name listed.

I can't find my Native Seeds/SEARCH catalog right now so don't know if it's listed there. But one has to be a member to order seeds from there.

Was there a synonym for this corn listed by Baker Creek last year? I can't find my last year's Baker Creek catalog either. LOL

The reason I ask is because it translates out to a white corn used for making soup (posole, or pozole), and there are lots of white Indian corns listed at SSE. I guess I'm asking if there's something special about it that distinguishes it from other white corns used for soup. Was it described as a flint or dent or sweet or flour corn?

Carolyn, who suggests that you could always e-mail Jere and ask his source, as well.

I'll email Jere as a last resort. I'm sure he's flooded with email as it is. Here's the description he gave last year, which does make it unique...

BLANCO PARA POZOLE- #106 NEW! Huge, white kernels, the largest corn we sell, UP TO TWICE THE SIZE (my capitals) of Hickory King, popular in Mexico for making tasty hominy and roasting ears. Seed collected at markets in Mexico. Unique and rare here.

It sounds like an excellent candidate for Corn Nuts.

All other resources were exhausted, but Jere came through with some old seed he found. No guarantees on viability, so I'll give it some TLC and see what happens. Thanks Jere!
