One night a couple of months ago we had a frost warning and I brought the H. pubicalyx in just in case. Decided to see how she liked it in the south window. We have new leaves and she bloomed! I'm so glad she likes her new home. This was a plant that was sorely abused and neglected that I rescued last spring.
She's blooming inside, hoorah!
Oh M'Gosh! She's beautiful! I'm so jealous ;-)
I just got an itty bitty one a few weeks ago. How big/old do they have to be before those gorgeous blooms occur?
I have read, heard that it not the size. They like to be crowded. They like the light and humidity. I have a H. publicaylx 'Reva' would you like to have a piece. I can mail in the US. only and willing to share. Norma
That's a beauty Stella. I love the smell of the blooms.

I'm sorry, I forgot to watch this thread. Here's a picture of the plant the day I brought it in. Just plunked it in a pot sitting near the window. You can see the oxalis growing in it. I don't know the age of the plant, but it's sure crowded. Don't think it's ever been transplanted. If you look closely you can see the umbrel that the flower came from.
It's beautiful! Thanks for showing us the additional photos, I would be excited, too. I have only two hoyas and so far no flowers but they are growing and looking healthy. Edited because I forgot to ask if you know the name of it.

Thank you for reminding me to add these images to the PDB, MaryE. Here's the plant: http://plantsdatabase.com/go/57670/index.html
Thank you! One of my plants has leaves similiar to this one.
It's gorgeous! Can't wait for mine to bloom.
It has a stem about 6 in. long with a pair of leaves at the end. Is it true that flower peduncles can grow off that stem? If so, how can I get them to form?
How do I get this to bloom?
Can't wait.
Uh oh. Mealy bug. Baaaad mealy bug. What's interesting is that I had no clue that they were there; the camera picked them up. I thought I'd take a pic of the flower dying and this is what I got. Should I try to find Cryptolaemus to control it? Are they used on indoor plants? This picture was taken two days ago. By this morning the flower had disappeared and only mealy bugs are left. Any suggestions on what to do to get rid of them?
Darn Mealies, they do love hoyas (exept lacunosa it seems).
Spray lightly or directly apply with a cotton swap undiluted rubbing alcohol every 3-4 days for about 2-3 weeks.
That usually works with light infestations.
Hey Karen, I'm new here too. Do I know you from somewhere?? wink, wink.
Gemila
The mealies have been trying hard to overcome. Now that it's warmer I moved her outside again and did a thorough alcohol swabbing yesterday. This plant is such a trooper, I think she'll probably survive. I have a huge contingent of spiders on the deck this spring. Do spiders eat mealy bugs? I'd love to get rid of them by natural means if possible. Maybe just being out in nature will take care of the problem.
Yes, Gemila, good to see you too.
My pubicalyx started taking off when I moved it to a slightly brighter window and positioned the humidifier directly under where it was hanging (during our overheated dry-air winter months here).
Hoping for blooms sometime soon! Meanwhile I have multiflora and lanceolata bella blooming now, but others just hanging out doing nothing at the moment.
Good luck to all of us!
Nice Stella.
One of my H. pubicalyx "Pink Silver" also is taking off with flowering but it isn't warm enough here yet to put my Hoyas outside thus I'm stuck with it in my bedroom where the sweet smell can get overpowering at night ( like somebody is trying to stick candy up the nose LOL).
H. lacunosa, carnosa var. and compacta are also starting to flower now and all of them are in the bedroom window. I hope that it will get warm outside in a hurry because there is so much sweet fragrance one can take.
Have you ever been next to the cotton candy vendor at the fair? I imagine the smell as much like that.
That's a great shot! I love the look of them just before they open. Looks like something out of a sci fi story.

Spectacular photo, PanamonCreel!
As much as I like the foliage on my little plant, can't wait til it blooms.
