Leave it in the same pot till it's really rootbound. They do not like to be disturbed. While blooming and in active growth they need adequate water(not soggy, but slightly moist). In summer put it outside in a shaded location(no hot sun, the leaves will burn) and give it some fertilize like Miracle Gro or Peter's. In fall, bring it inside and cut back on watering and keep in a cool room(do not let it freeze though). They need a cool, dry rest period to bloom. In January or Feb you will notice buds down between the leaves. Bring the plant out where you can enjoy the flowers and start with regular watering again.

Shhhhhh. Please, oh please do not tell my clivia that they need to be treated nicely.

I can't tell how big your pot is. If fat roots lying near the top and peeking out the bottom, After it is done blooming I would move that plant to a pot that is wider but not deeper, what they call azalea or bulb pots, so it can multiply. They like to go sideways.

okay the pot it is in was sitting in another. i checked the bottom where the holes are and can see roots but none coming out yet. just wrapping around.

i very gently moved some dirt on the top of the pot to see if i can see roots but moved about a finger depth of potting mix and didnt see anything.

the pot it is in is a tiny bit loose in the one you see in the picture.

okay since i dont see roots coming out of the bottom and none on top i will leave it alone.

thanks for the help. Marie

Clivias flower better when they're rootbound. It's one reason some people like to grow them in containers here even though they can go into our frost-free gardens. Quite a sight to see a potful of the red clivias in full bloom, literally breaking the plastic pot apart!
