Rockwool, rockwool- give it a rest

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

I don't need it and I'm not going to buy it. I've removed all credit cards from my reach. I repeat I don't need it!!! Stop talking about it. LOL!!!!! YOU people are a bad influence...

Who needs it anyway when you have ziplock bags.

I've taken lazy to a new level....

They are very happy living in that bag. They don't need no stinking rockwool. **oh I'm on a roll now** Maybe someone needs to take away my internet.

Can you all tell that I"m going nuts waiting for spring?

Whatever works for you...damp paper towels, baggies, rockwool, potting soil...and the list goes on.... SO MANY different ways of propogating seeds....they all work and they don't need to cost a lot of $$$. Ziplock bags work fine too! Keeps that humidity level high!!

I was only kidding Shirley! I'm just getting a little crazy with winter. I actually forgot that I had the seeds in that bag. Just came across them today on the floor.

I'm just not buying any rockwool because I don't have the space inside right now. I'm dying to get some though.

I have tried soil, papertowels/plastic ziplock bags, etc. top of frig, under lights, heat mat, RW. I still do NOT have it down pat! Need more like 75% to 100% and I am not getting it.

Forgot to say......5 more weeks and spring will be coming. I hope! We are going a little "stir crazy" here also!

I think we have to remember that not always are the seeds all viable so we shouldn't expect 100% germination. If we get it we are lucky. I've had some that haven't germinated and that is why I plant plenty.

Kristi, plant those poor babies up! LOL. Amazing, but it shows you a seed is going to do what a seed is going to do regardless of us!

They are survivors! What is the cross Kristi?

The seeds are from my Pink Beauty. I crossed it with a couple different plants. One of them was your Giant Yellow. I haven't started many seeds this winter as I thought I was going to move.

I'm going to pot them up. Poor little things. Although their brother and sisters are all crammed into one pot. My method of starting seeds consists of tossing them in a pot with some dirt and hoping for the best. It seems if I worry over them or give them special treatment they won't germinate.

I am going to purchase some rockwool this summer to try it with cuttings.

I think my lesson is to be patient. I have found another brug, coming up in something that I planted in starter soil that I thought "nothing happening here." Seems like with brugs and dats, 6-8-10 or more weeks are needed.

I agree. Patience. I had some varieties that popped right up, others are taking their good sweet time. All were started together in the same pan in rock wool. I believe seed freshness must have quite a bit to do with germination time. Its funny too, one variety I have in a row of rw has algae all over the top of the rock wool, but the others on either side are clean. Very strange.
