cavandish banana?

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Is the cavendish only a dwarf variety or just one of many with the name? They have them on sale at Lowes for $3 each but I was afraid to pic one up as it didnt have any other info on it whatsoever. If this is the only one with that name are these also the ones I would have better luck in getting a bloom with and possible nanas?

As I understand it, there is Cavendish (what your Chiquita and Dole bananas are) and dwarf Cavendish.

hhmm, now Im at a loss. I wonder if the dwarf is the only one with the red blotching on the leaves, if so then the one I saw was definatly a dwarf. I might just go get one to try it out. I can pot it up until its safe to go outside and then see how it does over the summer. I have another banana that Ive had for years, dont know the name and its in a pot my 4yo can play in. Not easy dragging that one around. hhmm decisions decisions.

Dravercat,
At 3 bucks how can you go wrong.
I snagged 5 last fall at Lowes and they are doing quite well. They are in a south facing window and they never did go dormant. They lost the red splotching but are throwing a leaf every few weeks.
The neighbors got one a year ago and it got about 4' tall and very full by Summers end.

Ok Ok yes I am the procrastinator extrodinare. I didnt go back till today and of course all the discounted ones were gone, the day before. BUT, those lovely lovely people at Lowes couldnt stand my whining and gave me two at the discounted price. LOL So two are better than none and Im very happy. With luck Ill have pups to trade later.
