noone seemed to be trading any bulbs so i went on out and bought some, i got glad's, and yellow dinnerplate dahlia's, and also red ones. 2 huge elephant ears, oh and 2 clematics vines. If anyone has any extra bulbs i will gladly pay postage! Gotta get some flowers going-- i can't handle this starting over.
new bulbs
I couldn't resist picking up a few bulbs at Lowe's last weekend. My haul included 40 caladium bulbs, 3 types of Hostas, 2 types of gladiolas, 2 asiatic lillies, and 4 bulbs of Catherine Woodbury daylillies. Did that satisy my lust? NO...had to add a Ballerina antique rose, and a Snow Queen hydrangea before I came to my senses. DH says it's not safe for me to go out alone :) The worst part is that it's been raining for a week and half and more to come so all this is sitting in a box..waiting for the rain to stop so it can dry out enough to dig the new beds. It may be weeks before I can plant all this stuff. Did I mention I am grounded for a while? :)
Remember when we used to say "We need the rain" whenever we had that rare occurance? Now my brick is green, I can't garden, I've got moss growing where it's never grown before... What's wrong with a little balance? :-)
So true Pins...always seems to feast or famine here. Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the garden...(theme to "Jaws")LOL.
lolol.. u guys are funny.. and the moss sounds beautiful!!! we havent had very much rain at all this year but whe have had a TON of wind.. if the wind is too strong i cant garden in it.. , i dont even want to get into all the stuff i have planted this year.. but i will say this i planted 900 bulbs this year since sept. 2003 , i planted 19 different kinds of lilies th, and 7 kinds of daylilies, 4 kinds of clematis with another 6 kinds on their way from mail order, three kinds of gardenia, one is almost as tall as me, hubby bought that for me on one of our 'dates' last weekend..lol.. i must have planted close to 100 irises..and gladiolus..omgooodness... i must have at least 200 of those planted this year.. i also got 10 rose bushes...theres more but the last thing i am going to mention is my new project i have started... pic is below what i WANT sooo bad.. well i got 10 goldenchain trees (bareroot) and planted those the day before yesterday.. today i am going out to try and get something like those allium, hmm maybe i should check the net for companys that are selling them to clear them out... but still i want something that will bloom longer.. anyway.. if the wind stays down today i can get back to planting...

cici77, i dont know if they still have any but touch of nature has great alliums. i have some in different sizes around my home. they are suppose to multiply nicely too.
your project is stunning. good luck to you on that.
Txflowerlover,
I've never tried Dahlias down here. Do you have this growing in your garden now? Just wondering how they handle the heat and humidity.
Cici,
I got exhausted just reading your post, lol. The alee in the picture is beautiful. From all the planting you are doing, I get the idea you are starting from scratch with a large property?
hi ladibug... yes i am starting from scratch... we have been out here for 3 years and the entire property was vacant...in those three years all we got planted were about 50 trees.. we have really HOT summers and with no trees around..ugh. it was horrible... but last year i put in my weeping willow driveway , by propogating them from my very first tree planted on the property.. and they are huge compaired to the little stems they started out to be , they were planted in aug 2003... we are also building our small house , so i havent been able for the past several years to really get an idea about a garden or anything... last summer though i learned to do everything myself, the dripper systems , building my own beds.. hubby in passing correcting me or showing me a better easier way of doing something... i just cant wait for him to do it all for me.. he is building our house and doesnt have the time ... but thats ok , i am having a blast doing it (: we have 20 acres and i am working on the front 5 acres , i never realized how hard it is , when there is nothing there... u put in a garden and do all this work, while fantasizing about how beautiful its going to be when in full bloom and when ur done ur so happy but realize how very small it looks in such an open space.. so i just keep going without stopping.. i work outside EVERYDAY ,ALL DAY , unless its raining or i am out shopping for flowers and such , its a non stop project.. and whats funny is , we are in a 'temporary' living situation in an area the house will not be.. on the other side of the front of the property, i am doing all these gardens over here and where the house is gonna be there is NOTHING not even a tree... even the weeping willow driveway leads to where we are now.. lol... i have had people say to me just pic how u want something and do it.. but i cant just do it.. i really have to think of the future, its size and what we may do later ... its hard when u start out with nothing.. but i must say already since dec 2003 i have done sooo much and have made two more gardens the one is done for now it has snap dragons in it and daylilies and all sorts of bulbs and things things... but the one i am working on now is my "hammock garden" that is connected to an area we BBQ ...eventually in the next month they will prob all connect at some point or at least go from one to another , u know what i mean.. anyway here is a pic of the area we are uilding the house.. the horse pen is torn down at the moment.. , the semi truck and trailer is outta here, and the septic tank is now in the ground..lol.. i had to look at that ugly thing for the past two and a half years... thats the driveway that now had weeping willows down it.. thats leading to where we live now.. the bare green area is the area where the house is going, i also have been looking at that ugly storage unit for the past three years but it has all our furniture in it.. this view is fron the top of our hill so some of the area is cut off by the weeds... but as u can see , nothing is there.... lol.. anyway i beter end this post or i may have a book ..lol.. and debi~z i checked the site out.. i didnt see any of those bulbs must all be sold out.. darn! (: thanx though!

cici77 what a labor of love! I can just visualize how beautiful it all will be as time passes. Your view from your site is lovely too. A WOW project.
Oh goodness i just bought 24 new Glad's. And 2 more Huge elephant ears bulbs. Everytime I go to walmart it seems i come home with something. But if you get a little at a time, it does eventually add up. Before long my beds will be as pretty as yours! I need to start on my backyard, it is a mass of vines and thorns! Someone want to come help???
yes zenzinnia, i know , ALOT of work ahead of me..lol.. the green area in that pic is just the front half, i didnt post a pic of the other half because my hubby had a bunch of "ugly" around and i didnt want to have to look at it again! (: although alot of the "ugly" has been taken care of... like that septic tank in that pic.. its hard to see but none the less its still ULGY! the semi was an ugly thing to look at... thats gone, the generator we had to use for electric was ugly .. thats gone (WHOO-HOOO!!!) All the wood on the side of my little barn was ugly , just thrown there.. i have taken over getting things organized.. hubby says , ur taking over everything i dont have anywhere i can stick this stuff and we have all this land.. i told him "listen, i have been living with "ugly" for three years.. and i am sick of it... so move it !!! lol"
txflowerlover, thats what i did, bought a little here and there on occasion i would go with hubby to Home Depot or lowes and he would buy me several of the 25 pack bulbs.. it doesnt take long to add up to hundreds of bulbs. i cant wait to see them in bloom this year... (:
