Help for Dr. Seuss!

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

I got an unrooted cutting for Dr. Seuss, as well as one for a peach brug. I put them both in about 1" of water and the little white root-like things came out. Today I decided to put them in pots. The peach brug was fine. The Dr. Seuss smelled bad where it was in the water and the top was shriveled all up. I cleaned out the nasty inside that was rotting, and cut off the shrivelled part. There is a very tiny sprout coming out of one of the nodes. It is planted in seed starting medium. I did dunk the rooting part in a rooting medium in hopes that it calluses over. Is there anything more I can do to save this baby? I really want this Dr. Seuss to grow.

Thanks so much!

Should be fine! There was some discussion on keeping the bottom of the cuttings from touching the bottom of the glass or jar. It is important not to crush or bruise it as that invites rot. Sometimes the tops do wither. I understand that you cut off the bad top, and the bad bottom, and that there is a leaf node with a shoot, so that sounds good. Are there some good roots left?

You'll want to make sure your potting mix is well-drained, and do not overwater. It is good if the container is not too large, until it fills with roots.

Hope you can rescue Dr. Suess!

I"ll be keeping my fingers crossed. There are no roots yet, just the white nubby thingys that came when they were in the water. Thanks for the reassurance.

The white nubby things (lenticels) are a good indication that rooting will happen soon! Keep us posted.
