Hi all, I am a newbie here, first atempt at posting a picture. Hope it turns out. I am also a newbie at DG, I just love this place already and haven't even done anything with it yet. Everyone seems so friendly and helpful. I have plants to trade, seeds to trade, experiements with plants to trade, and friends to meet.
I am going to the forum with this picture also to try and find out the real name for it. Every plant person here in my hometown just says it's a hybrid. The blooms are 9 inches across and they stay in bloom for 2 0r 3 days. People stop on the street and stare at it.
magetna cereus

Hi Tex and welcome to Daves,
looks like an epipyhllum to me,very pretty was there any fragrance with the bloom?
Honeybee, I hope to have my trade lists done by this weekend, haven't really figured everything out yet, it's is such a huge place and I get started inn one place and stay there forever and then don't have time to get somewhere else, lol. How do I find you when I get my list up so you can look?
Welcome. Hope you like it here. Beautiful bloom, have no idea what it is.
Trpoicman, it is an epiphyllum, just am not sure of the complete name. I found one that looks just like it on the plants database a few minutes ago, I believe it is the one called the Cactaceae
Genus: x Disophyllum
Cultivar: Pegasus
Synonym:x Disophyllum Epiphyllum
I was so sure that I went ahead and posted my picture on there, sure hope it's the right one.
No, no smell, just beauty on this one. The size is enough to take your breath away. In spring I will have loads of cuttings of this to trade, in fact, I'm gonna try to get my trade lists done this weekend, I might have it then.
tex,
You can look up Honeybee or just

Hi there, and welcome to Dave's..
There is a site that you may want to check out, to look at their photos of Epi's.. Epies by Pat it is located here in CA and she had lots of the pictures and names posted on her site. will try to find the link for you, maybe she's got one listed there, also Bob Smoley's has a site with some epies, but don't know if he has photos of each one.
I have some epies too, but have not had a chance to see them bloom yet, although they are growing..
texas007tornado. welcome to DG. This is a great site with great friends. You'll love it here.
Welcome to Dave's texas007tornado
I'm fairly new myself. There is so much to look at on this site and the people are a friendly bunch. I've learned a lot since I found this site. Have fun.

Folks, I have a white one also and it blooms at night. It had 20 blooms one spring morning at 3 a.m. I tried but could not get any of my "friends" to come see it, it shriveled up when morning came, but I got pictures. Had them on my puter and then the dreaded worst happened. Puter crashed, lost all my lovely pictures. Learned my lesson though, have everything backed up on a cd rw, that way I can save everything over each day when I have additions and changes.
The magenta one comes in the morning and stays for several days. The size is astounding when you see it for the first time. It's dinner plate size.
Here's the link for some photos.. just click on one of the plant photos and it brings them up by alpa letters and you can start there.. http://wwwepies.net
This is one that is labeled Magenta that is all, this is the only one that I got to see bloom last year because it was given to me with a bud attached a few weeks earlier..lol.. The plants in these baskets are now at least 2 feet longer, and just hoping that this year I get lucky.. some are named some are not, some got eaten by the roof rats..
The other site I do believe he has the photos with the names just do a google search under bobsmoley and a list will come up..
Tropicman, just waiting for those blooms too..I have about 10 named and another 20 un-named.. and whatever those rats left me.. I have been feeding them some orchid fertilizer, don't know if that is why they are so long. But, they seem to like it, they are starting to grow again here.
Mine all also very long, almost to large to handle anymore, they take up so much room.Mine are growing ,and I'm not feeding them at all.
Tropicman, I saw some epies in some huge urns at an old Victorian home, and they were just overflowing all over the place, and in full bloom. They were peach colored. The urns were about three feet tall and epies just reached the floor and some. The owner said that she just would put the broken pieces back into the pot when she found them broken off. She had a couple of them in the front of her home and a couple in the rear. I wish I had had a camera. They looked like a bunch of waterlillies cascading down those urns. That did it for me.... had to have some.
I have a ton of white ones, but the two y'all have ----oh, my they are *very* niccceee...... You both just let me know what you want for a leaf or stem cutting. drooling here....
Gourd,I have king midas, padre, inauguration, siagon, paradise, frances c,dutchmasn pipe,do you have any of these?
How'd you get such a mall plant to bloom so early and young?
Jenks are your white ones named?
They came to me as simply "Queen of the night" so i guess the answer is 'no' lol. Wow you have a bunch of them Tropicman! Where do you get them? Do you order them off the internet?
Tropicman, the cutting I was given had a bud on it already, it did not get affected once she cut it off and gave it to me.. I just hoped it would continue to do something and it bloomed a few weeks later. Probably the only bloom I'll ever get to see with these roofrats around too.
These are what I could read off the epies themselves, most of the names have been eaten..lol
TelStar
Tropical Night
Raspberry Magenta Pink
Basket of Cheer
Pegasus
Ramblin Rose
Watermelon
Valse Brillant
Red Sails
Queen of the Night which I think is supposed to be white
Padre
Med. Gold (whatever that means)
Very small Ric Rac (eaten)
have several more un-named
and some more named that I wont' know till they recuperate and bloom. Will take some photos tomorrow and show you all what a hungry roofrat can do..lol.
Wow that will be grreat,I assume you can leave these outside in your zone.
I currently have them close to the walls, moved some onto tables and two baskets under a tree. They are suffering some because we do get a few frosts, so I am losing the thinner ones. I need to move them into another area, just run out of room during the winter. I order about 6 others from Epies by Pat, but could not locate them at all, so they must have been lunch.. I just haven't found that perfect (and safe) spot for them yet.
From what reading I have done on epis, they do need a rest in the winter. No food and limited light and not much water. I moved mine in on my glassed in back porch til about March when I will re do them, cut them back, divide and repot in nice fresh dirt in a hanging planters.
I do have one planted under an old pear tree, we'll see what the winter does to it. We've had a very cold and wet winter here in the Houston area.
