Hold All Trades Please

hiram, GA(Zone 7b)

We're closing on our house the 20th! YEAH!!! Please hold off sending any trades until after March 1st. This was a totally wonderful, unexpected Valentine surprise cooked up by my loving husband who wanted me to be able to plant my gardens in March, not July. I"ll email my new address out next week to all you guys I have spring trades with. Wish us luck moving all the plants I have tucked away all over the house. I"m so excited.!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

congratulations to you and your dh. what a sweetheart to think of you in such a way. he obviously values you and your gardening talents.

hiram, GA(Zone 7b)

He helps plant seeds and mists the cuttings everynight for me. He loves them just as much as I do, and he's been the one making all the funky, industrial yard art for the house. Now to get the plants to fill the yard. We'll be in Temple now. The yard is a full acre, and he's going to dig me a pond too before we move in. At least there are a few japanese holly and hostas (I think looking at dead leaves) and a few other shrubs planted. Will have to get them identified so that I know what they are. They are all mulched so they are safe. We have full unadulterated sun, with a nice shade spot for the hostas I ordered from Hallsens. I'm trying to find him a magnolia tree for valentines now.

I just found out where Hiram is. I have no idea where Temple is. Closer or farther away from Atlanta? :-)

How exciting to be moving to a new place! You can start all over again. It must be great to have a husband that likes plants too. Congratulations.

Eco, not leaving you, just moving a little further toward the alabama line...have to be close to talledega, you know...hubby loves nascar! It's only about 15 minutes from here. We're further west of Atlanta than we were, but still going to be so thrilled to have dirt under my hands, knees, and my own place to thoroughly put down roots. I already have railroad ties ordered for ornamental beds, and 8 yards of landscape mix being delivered the day after closing, and the house is 1/2 way packed (we don't have much to move), so looks like I"ll be a busy little bee for a few weeks, and then its mailing trade time again.

very nice. looks like plenty of room for plants

hiram, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks! Lots and lots of room. Just need to identify the shrubs planted around the outside now. I think there are some hostas too.

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

Looks great Sheryl! What a blank slate you have there... You sound like me with having stuff delivered the day after closing. We didn't move in to our house for a month after closing because we were waiting till after our wedding, but you better believe I was out there digging my first garden beds anyways! We didn't even have furniture in the house yet! lol Happy planning. :)

It's remarkable what 5 months of collecting plants will do to planning a move. After all was said and done last night, we calculated that we will have enough seedlings, seeds, and rooted cuttings to fill five 4'x8' raised flower beds. WOW, that 8 yards of dirt will sure go quickly. It's going to take two pickups to move the yardart and plants. I didn't realize that I'd been rooting and starting so many seeds until I wrote down all I had. WOW! I'll be like you eco, planting before we're totally settled in. Can't wait. Sure hope all the plants are happy in their new homes though!

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Sheryl,

You will have all your babies
settled in & growing great in no
time.

Let me know when you are ready
for a package.

Have you decided about the Fl. Round-Up?? You said you might be able to make it???

You never have a move without a disaster! our disaster...three boxes of seedlings/cuttings/plants went flying off the back of the truck and down the middle of I-20! Don't think I'll be able to make any swaps, or even get stuff together for Spring trades, since I had most of my cuttings in those boxes. I'm just glad they were planted in containers that wouldn't hurt anyone/anything if they fell or flew at them. I have already warned the mail lady about my penchant for plant trading, and she has a safe spot to leave my packages all picked out

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

oh no! i know you were just sick. you do not worry about any trades owed. we are all understanding. hey life happens. anyway i'll bring you some extra things to the roundup in may. by then you will be situated and know where you want things planted. nothing in return needed or wanted. have a great day! your friend janet

hiram, GA(Zone 7b)

Janet, I still have your hostas though!!!! They were ready to mail out, postage and all, so didnt fall off truck, just got packed up.

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

no rush, i know what moving is. as a kid daddy was a brick layer and i nevr went to the same school all yr until high school. in adult life i have moved jprobably a couple of dozen times so enjoy your new place and get ready for all those plants you will get at the round ups

hiram, GA(Zone 7b)

Working on it! Thank goodness the mail lady already knows that I'll be hanging plants off of the mailbox! She's already said she'd keep her eyes open for the red flag, and drive up the 100 yard driveway to get the packages from me. Now to find out what I have left, I don't want to leave folks hanging, you know?
