I'm considering doing a large koi fish pond infront of my house. Futher behind my house there is a small stream that has flowing water pretty much year round. I'm trying to find a way to run tubing/piping under ground all the way from this stream to the front of the house (up to the pond). I would like to have this pump either wind powered or solar powered to bring the water into the pond. Does anyone know if this is possible using wind or solar power? I think I may resort to solar power because there are trees close to the house and I would have to have a really tall windmill to catch the winds with force to them. I would also do a return flow tube to prevent flooding in the pond. I will also have the water tested for chemicals and contamination befor I do this.
Free power for water pump.
Well- I'd be wary of changing a creeks flow. It might even be illegal. As far as the other stuff- I'm not sure. I'm sure someone else will come along with information soon. :D
there are hydralic ram pumps that you can make that could run with the water pressure from the stream. I too would be very worried about changing the flow of the water as there are so many laws about water now.
Check your state laws at the DNR office. Our state does not let you change a stream's direction. Very large fine if you are caught doing it. They go up in an airplane 2x a yr. to check stream beds here.
